I have a P229 frame that broke near the magazine release button. It just randomly broke after dry fire. I had never taken the mag release out, so I thought it was odd. Sig said they would fix or replace it, but changed their mind after I sent it back and said that they would not be able to take care of me. It was frustrating because they accused me of removing the magazine release, which I never had. So I have these options: 1. Live with the left handed magazine release and carry and shoot it as is. 2. Purchase a new frame from Revenant Arms 3. See the gun on the cheap as being functional, but defective. 4. Try hunting down a person with a stripped p229 frame that they would sell or trade. I have a nearly perfect W. German P226 frame I'd trade. What do you guys think is the best option of those? Am I missing another option that might make sense?

It depends on how much do you like the P229. If it were me, I'd buy a frame from Revenant Arms. I would order a new magazine support plate if you go the new frame route. They can require fitting. You can also just order all the mag catch parts and ask them to install it. In my experience Matrix Precision/Revenant Arms has excellent customer service.

Contact SIG and send them the frame, or the complete firearm. They'll make it right. “Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.” – Barack Hussein Obama, January 23, 2009

Dan, he already sent it back and they would not take care of it.

I would get a new frame from Revenant Arms, as they don't seem to expensive for a new/solid frame. I would be leery about switching sides of the magazine release, as if it broke once, who is to say it won't happen again. I don't know the exact damage but if you use this gun for h.d. or ccw or even range use, I would rather have a fully functional pistol without another gremlin ruining anything else.

If had purchased the gun new and knew I had not done what they claimed I had done to break it, then I'd give them another chance to make it right.

I'd go with option 2 or 4 if getting Sig to fix it is truly off the table. I've been very happy with my Revenant P226 frame. But if I had a spare P226 frame sitting around as trade fodder for a P229 frame that I could actually use, I'd probably go that route if I could find a taker. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Tell me about it. I even told them, if there was any chance they would not fix or replace it, I wouldn't even bother sending it back because it would be a waste of the overnight shipping. A day after they got it, they said that their techs determined that the cause was an improperly installed magazine release. I advised them that I had owned the gun for 8 years and never took it off. They said there was nothing they could do other than sell me a frame for $300 or ship it back. I spoke with a supervisor, who ultimately refused to give me my shipping money back, but gave me $50 credit for the Sig website. That was only after I provided the emails where the rep said that the frame would be repaired or replaced for sure. I had even sent several photos of the damage for them to look at prior to shipping. They straight up lied to me. I guess getting $50 back was better than nothing, but I was very disappointed in the Customer Service department. I actually shot the P229 today, and it's a sweet shooter. I just can't get over the reversed mag release.

I was not the original purchaser, but I made sure before I sent it that it wasn't going to be an issue. I spent a solid two weeks dealing with them, asking for supervisors, asking them to reconsider after reading the emails where the original rep assured me that it would be fixed or replaced. I even said in one of the emails that if there was even a slight chance that they would reject the repair, I would just buy a revenant frame instead. No luck. I talked to three levels of customer service along the way. The middle guy was a real jerk about it too.

That really does stink that Sig didn’t take care of you. Keep an eye on the blemished frames from Revenant. https://www.matrixprecisionpar...d-serialized-frames/ Last year I scored two nickel frames at $99 each. You could barely see any blemishes. The current ones are a lot more than I paid. But I was very happy with the quality.

^ Agreed. That's how I got my P226 frame. I still don't know where the blemish is. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

SIG should be ashamed of themselves. It really angered me reading how they treated their customer here. They need to explain what is the BFD letting the OP purchase a replacement frame, with the original one irreparable. Q

Perhaps I missed it, but what year is the 229 frame that cracked? The reason I ask is because getting a new frame might not fix your issue as you’ll need a new barrel depending on the age of the 229. I have a 20+ year old 229R. When I tried to buy the optic cut slide, the slide would not work with the old block and barrel. You would have to buy a new barrel as well as the frame. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Abn556,

For the cost of one (or maybe a few dozen...) SIG could make up for it in selling hundreds/thousands more, because standing behind your product pays forward... "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא עוד

Sounds like you had the Legacy 9mm P229 that has the old 9mm specific (i.e., narrow magwell) frame with the half-height rear cocking serrations short extractor slide, and the locking insert and barrel specific for this gun. That's why when you tried the newer generation slide (with the long external extractor and different dimensions) with the old barrel on your old frame, they don't work together. If OP's gun is also a Legacy 9mm P229, your situation doesn't apply to him, as he's not looking for a newer gen slide. He's looking only for a replacement frame while still using the entire upper assembly. All he needs to do is put the locking insert from the cracked frame into the new one, and everything will work.
