Nice pre-lock. I own a 686+ with the Hillary hole, but on my list of must haves are some pre-lock Smiths including the 19, 686, and the 629 Mountain Gun. I usually carry polymer but love the weight and response of a revolver when shooting magnum loads. Congrats on that find. _______________

Even for range use an unrecalled 586 can be a PITA. My nickel 586 was a great shooter, but some of my loads would trigger the lockup. "The world is too dangerous to live in-not because of the people who do evil, but because of the people who sit and let it happen." (Albert Einstein)

Had one 20 years ago, insanely accurate. Sold it and totally regretted doing so.

The recall is for 1987 and earlier made 586. So check your serial or call smith. Seems to not affect 686. The recalled and repaired guns will be stamped M I have a 4 and 6 inch 686 ironically both former cop guns the 6 inch was a San Jose PD and 4 inch was Oakland CA PD and is marked so on the frame. Retired OPD officer didn’t want it. If that gun could tell stories. Both pre lock square butts What id really like is a square butt 686 mountain gun barreled 7 shot. Now that would be a nice set up.

Gents, Thanks for all the good words and well wishes. Couldn't be happier. Shot it last Friday and it's a PEACH! Wes

A 586 with 4” barrel was the first new gun I bought in 1981, I wish I was smart enough to have held onto that one. I did find a 686 no dash many years later that has never been sent in for the upgraded hammer that I think very highly of and appreciate it as being one of the best most accurate revolvers I own
