looks like you've got an 84/85ish gun, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking about.

Udo, serial numbers and proof date don’t have to correspond. The serial number is related to a manufacturing date in the factory. Proof firing is a different process performed by a different organization outside the factory. There is no connection between the two. Assuming a proof date was corresponding with the manufacturing date would lead to misinterpretations. Another reason for non corresponding proof dates are reserved serial number ranges for certain customers. The list of serial number has to be taken as a rule of thumb with some exceptions. Out of whack numbers are possible for that reason, Wink.

I'm fully up to speed on the serial/proof date relationship that can jostle the sequence of serials. The early P220's also showcase the difference.

-G100-1XX-JA-1980-7.65mm Para
-G100-215-HG-1976-9mm = Thanks to Udo (Frame serial on top of left rear rail, proofs on right cheek, No import mark)
-G100-46X-HG-1976-9mm = Thanks to Udo/kauphycup
-G100-8XX-HG-1976-9mm = Thanks to onequickwrench
-G100-8XX-JA-1980-7.65mm Para
-G100-933-JA-1980-7.65mm Para

What is odd to me is that the three lowest P230 serials cover a four year period without any others mixed in.

P.S. I have tracked down three other P220's in the first one thousand. and will report on them soon.

Want me to add to it?

P230SL, # S047 3XX, KE. Purchased last year as police turn-in.

So my best guess would be 0 prefix is LE designated and 1 prefix is civvy?

Who knows?

SIG did not use designated serial number patterns for different markets except for government contracts or on request as we know it from the BDA or the BGS contracts. Serial number rage for the P230 start with S001001 and is atypical while serial number of the prototypes are used traditionally from the P210 series. Early P230’s had been shipped to LEO departmens in Zürich and Schaffhausen but not exclusively. Such pistols had been chambered in 9mm Ultra but had been available on the public market as well. Like I mentioned above, serial numbers and proof date do not have to match because manufacturing and proof tests are not related to each other. They can, but do not have to.

Udo, are you from Missouri? Growing up in a small Missouri town, “out of whack” was an oft-heard expression. Smile
