Been thinking about and looking at 2011's for the last couple of months. Had all but convinced myself to get a Bul Armory TAC Pro, but just as I was about to pull the trigger they went out of stock. The Platypus was also getting serious consideration, but I don't really care about customizing my gun with wild colors and ordering from the website means a 12-14 week wait. So I started looking at the Sig. I've owned a couple of Sigs pistols in the past (including a 320) and an Sig 516 AR15 upper and always been pretty happy with the quality - well the 320 was bought as a possible carry pistol, but now it's been relegated to range gun. With some research I actually found a P211 at what seemed like a decent price (a little below the $2,399 which looks like it's the floor for a new gun). So I ordered it yesterday. Any other P211 owners out there? What's your experience been with the gun?

I don not have any experience with the P211, and probably will never buy one until I relocate to a free state since the capacity is irrelevant for me and my P210 fills the roll. With that said, the LGS I hang out at frequently has sold a bunch of them, and I've spoken with numerous people that made the purchase. No one has had anything negative to say about the gun. As a matter of fact, everyone I've spoken to that shot theirs rave about how smooth & accurate it is. I have handled it, and can say the slide operation si on par with my P210 (amazing) and the trigger is super! _____________________________________ P220, P225, P226, P228, P229 Legion, P230, P230SL, P239, 38H, P365, P365 faux Legion, M17X, M17 Full, M18, P210 Standard, P210 Carry Custom Works, SP2022

I rented one at my local shop a couple weeks back. It shot as flat and fast if not better than my staccato xc. I only had two issues with it: 1- the recoil plug is plastic and sig will not sell it to you so you have to buy a metal one from a seller on ebay. 2- I did not like how the comp is attached (set screws). You might try it again. There's multiple folks on YouTube that have requested and received a free metal recoil plug, and Sig has switched to a metal plug on all new GTs starting in February. Also, if you don't want to chase an eBay seller or get one of Sig's upgrades, both FDez and Dawson Precision sell replacement plugs. This message has been edited. Last edited by: DanH,

I'm about 500 rounds into a P211GTO. Zero issues. Mine is a January gun with metal plug. Vortex defender ST dot fit right on direct mount. Very accurate. Comp is a little loud indoors. Seems effective, although steel frame really soaks up recoil. Trigger has some creep. I like it.

I have all 3 you mentioned (P211 GTO, Bul Armory Tac 5" and Platypus). GTO, mine came with the plastic plug. I had to order a metal one from FdezWerkx and Dawson Precision. Good for mike56 that his GTO came with the new metal plug. I installed Defender XL (green dot), replaced the magwel with a black one. Also replaced the grip with LOK grips. Felt good in my hand. Shot about 250 rounds and not one problem. This is a keeper. When I purchased mine, Sig had a promo for 3 Free magazines. I paid $2,099 for mine (my local funstore always gives a discount when I purchase firearm from the same sales rep). Bul Armory feels like a solid piece of metal. Reminds me of my Les Baer 1911. Amongst these 3 pistols, this is by far my favorite. I am still waiting for the TAC COMP to come out. It was supposed to come out December of 2025. But they still have them as Coming Soon. Platypus gives you the capability to fully customize your finish and type of slide etc. Took about 8 weeks to build. They now came out with a new pickle grip. I heard great reviews about that. They also recently came out with a Comp model. Too many 2011 in the market, it will make your head spin. _______________________ P228 - West German

What makes my head spin is the mutation of the general type and the lax terminology, kind of like 1911. SIG takes Sig magazines, Platypus takes Glock magazines and now Sig mags. There is a Fusion hammer gun for Glock magazines. Bul has their own magazine. Staccato has their own magazine but is crawfishing to Glock clips. Not 2011s in my book. I also read of incompatibility of guns for nominal 2011 magazines, base pads and mag well funnels can interfere between brands. At least SIG is starting to show guns without compensators which will cut down on blast amplification and open up some competition divisions like USPA Limited Optic.

ador - curious why you prefer the Bul Armory to the Sig. I understand it has a better trigger. Anything else. Kind of like that the Sig takes p320 mags. Plus the Sig is available and a little cheaper than the Bul Armory. I picked mine up for a little over $2,200 OTD. Sounds like you got a great price on yours. mrprovy - I actually own a P210. One of my favorite pistols. Super accurate. Good trigger. And I love the grip on the Target model. Only downside is that, like most of my pistols, it has iron sights. Really starting to try to get into red dots as my eyes aren't what they used to be and I'm both faster and more accurate with a dot.

Only because Staccato owns the trademark of "2011" and others have to play some variety of "Double Stack 1911." Something that's been very consistent about a 2011 is it being a firearm with a 1911 trigger system with a slide and one piece grip module attached to a steel or alloy "frame" rail. Basically this:

The GTO and Bul both have steel frames. I just like way how the Bul feels in my hand. It feels like a solid piece of metal. The grip also feels better. That is the reason why I replaced the GTO grip with LOK grips. I have small hand. The GTO original grip is great. Just a bit sharp and tad thick for me. I'm sure other folks like those GTO grips. If you have a local store that carries Bul Armory, try holding it a rack the slide. You will not be disappointed. Both GTO and Bul are great pistols. Can't go wrong with either one. Like I said earlier, the GTO is a keeper. In fact, I am waiting for the FDE GT4 to come out. Oh, and the BUL TAC COMP too.

Thanks for the reply. I have pretty large hands (I can palm a basketball fairly easily) so large grips are generally a plus for me. Handling/trying either a Bul Armory or an Sig 2011 was never really in the cards. I live in a pretty rural area and the nearest town (30 minutes away) only has one gun store with a pretty limited inventory. I suspect I'd be driving at least 3+ hours to find anywhere that had both guns in stock.

I got to my range today and discovered they had both a P211 GTO and a Staccato XC. So I put 50 rounds through each and I was more impressed with the Sig than I was the XC. If you've ever handled a P320 AXG frame, you've handled a GTO (just add a grip safety). The Staccato had the standard bulky 2011 grip that I can't stand. For me, it's either a Prodigy grip or a MJD grip. Those shrink the grip to something less blocky and makes the gun easier to handle. The Sig handled recoil better, but it's also 8oz heavier than the Staccato. The trigger was a little mushier on the Sig, but I much preferred the flat metal trigger shoe over the curved polymer Staccato shoe even though the XC had a 2.5# trigger. Sig and the aftermarket has fixed the possible issue with the plastic reverse plug and offer steel or aluminum ones. The range XC would not reliably lock back on empty which probably means it needs more oil. The thing I really did not like about the Sig was any accidental touch on the slide during cycling will cause a failure. I don't know which recoil spring they used in the 211, but if I were to buy one I would be putting a set of Atlas shielded ambi safeties to make sure my right thumb didn't slow the slide. Overall, Sig did a lot right with this gun, but I hope they come out with a model with a polymer lower for less money. At this price point, I'd rather wait for the Bul Armory Tac Pro Comp.

^ Thanks for that great write-up. I can't really afford a 2011 right now, but you gave me a lot of good things to think about if I ever get to the point where I'm looking at one. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Since I rented the guns, I had to use their range ammo which was the 100 round value pack Browning 125gr at 1140fps. I'd really like to see how the comp works with the lead free Federal 70gr at 1625fps. I'm at the point where if I'm buying a classic 2011 style gun it'll either be a Bul Armory 9mm or someone else's 10mm or .45ACP because I'll probably have to add $400ish to change out the grip unless it's a Prodigy, has an MJD grip, or someone put a stippled Extreme Shooters grip on it like the old STIs. Those were some of the most comfortable 2011s I shot (even with the treebark or full stippling) but I don't think they're worth what Extreme Shooters want to sell them for. I'd really like to try an OA Defense 2311 Pro with the ported barrel or the Staccato HD4.5 since they're both ambi like the Sig and they both use linkless barrels so field stripping and reassembly is far easier and what manufacturers should have been doing when they went to bull barrels and full length guide rods.

What about the P211-GT4 (compact) and P211-GT5 (full size)? I am looking forward to seeing how these flesh out...I'm eye-balling the GT4 when it comes out. I like the 1911-style safety, flat trigger, and compatibility with P320 mags

I went gun shopping last night and was convinced I was going to walk out with a GTO. However, I walked out with the Staccato HD 4.5. The Sig was fine but the Staccato was the better built gun in my opinion. Nothing wrong with the Sig, but when comparing the two there was a difference in quality in my eye. ________________________ "Don't mistake activity for achievement." I don’t own a 2011 type pistol. Although, I spent an afternoon with a dealer sample of one of these and probably will end up picking one up. Thing I don’t like right now is lack of holsters. ________________ People hate you. Train like it.

Speaking of holster, I came across Red Hill Tactical since I started getting into 2011. I now have 4 Level 2 RHT holsters for my 2011s. Very well made. _______________________ P228 - West German

Sig dude in these parts claims a safariland rds holster specifically for the p211 is coming soon. Hope it's a 6360, not a 7360.... ***************************** "I don't own the night, I only operate a small franchise" - Author unknown
