Total impulse buy. I was up at one of our police stores and spotted an old dirty dusty Glock G36. Everything functioned fine just dusty. The owner, who is a great guy, said he found it in the gun safe room buried in a box of traded in S&W Shields. Said he had it for a while and forgot when he took it in on trade. Now to use my Glock Armorer skills for a detailed strip and scrubbing.
Dead night sights, one factory mag, and no Glock box but, I have always liked the G36, was jonesing for a decent CCW.45acp, and for three and a half bills I couldn’t pass it up.
The G36 was the only Glock model I've ever owned that I hated. Bad ergonomics (for me), combined with low capacity for the size.
I traded into one back in ~2010ish, tried it, hated it, and traded it off within a few months.
The G19 or G30 work way better for me in that size category, plus unlike the G36 these models have been updated past Gen 3 to address shortcomings like the lack of effective grip texture and smaller mag release size.
Those have always interested me. Which one is the slimmer one...the 36 or the 30s? I always lose track. I've thought about picking one up a couple of times, but I already have a P220 Compact and a P245, and I don't see it replacing those.
I bought a 36 for no reason. Simply because an acquaintance had it for sale for a quite low price. I bought it as something new to play with for a while. I carried it now and then until I bought my XDs in .45, also bought for no good reason other than something new to play with for a while. This is how we learn.
The acquaintance passed not too long after, a little of the reason I keep it is it reminds me of him (despite us not really being good friend or anything, or that the gun meaning nothing to him). I sort of like it size and feel wise, though it's still a little off, I've never sat down and really figured out what changes it needs to fit me better. It did convince me that I would have bought a full sized or "commander" sized one and that Glock should have brought one out with a full grip, 8+ round, with a normal shaped single stack magazine instead of, or in addition to the model 36. That ship sailed though, it wouldn't have been a huge seller then and probably wouldn't sell at all today.
My 36 became a house gun. It lives in the bathroom. lol

I believe those passed would want us using things like guns, knives etc. And I think they would be happy to see those things used, cherished and passed on.
But I am a sentimental bastard so what do I know.

I rented one circa 1999/2000 and was underwhelmed. It did go bang and make holes every time, but the grip/magazine configuration makes no sense. If they had made it with a G19-length grip and a 7-8-round single-stack magazine, I'd have been all over that shit. (At that time, not so much today, what with the cost of range ammo and more/better choices in 9mm.)

Especially if you have larger hands. The G36 grip is awkwardly narrow (side to side) while still being chunky front to back. Makes it uncomfortable for me to grip and shoot, while the G30 fits my hand well.
All about the fit. I have large hands, usually like larger grips. But can't stand the large frame Glocks. Through two strange situations, I had a 20 and a 21 for a couple years, the one I know I never fired. The other it was once or twice if at all. But I handled them frequently, lots of dry fire trying to get used to them, but it never happened. The last few years I've had the urge to buy a G29 and put a dot on it, but I know I can't warm up to them.
If you didn't like the G20/G21, you probably really won't like the G29.
It feels even a bit chunkier than the full size large frame Glocks, since the rear "hump" is higher up on the grip due to its shorter grip length. Makes the grip feel even girthier.
