Wilson would sue the shit out of them. They own that patent for another 20 years or so.

Utility patents last 20 yrs. Another manufacturer could pay Wilson to license their design, although that of course would likely bring up the price of the clone.

Ahhh, a couple of years ago CDNN had Sarsilmaz SAR K2 double stack .45 acp pistols for about 1/3 of the price of this ilicit(?) Wilson copy.

Yeah, the Mecgar mags hold only(?) 14 rds.; but they're not Check-Mate's hit/miss quality.

The K2 pistols get excellent reviews and Sarsilmaz is a CZ licensee! My K2 shoots better than I can hold it, so I don't need any additional 'bells & whistles'.

What patent? Is there actually anything patentable in there? It's a 9mm 1911 with no grip safety. What's patentable? And if they did patent some minor details, a copy could just avoid them.

Wilson's X9 platform is not just a 9mm 1911. Most of the models have an external extractor uniquely sized to Wilson's slide, there's the alloy frame that have no grip safety at all (or a place to put one), the trigger shoe is unique and not swappable with any 2011 style gun, the removable beavertail/backstrap combo is also Wilson unique, and the way the grips interface on the gun in the EDC X9 and eXperior double stack are different to any other gun.

I'm sure your right. But to design and manufacture a double stack 9mm 1911 pattern pistol that's in the same size class as the G19, how much of that is necessary, and how much is it Wilson trying to justify their pricing with nice to have but not really necessary custom features? If some gun maker wanted to design such a gun to a $1,000-1,200 price point, is there any reason they couldn't, accepting it would be a rack grade gun.

Well, we're now getting finding these out in the wild. So far they're hit everything they said they would except for release date. The Commander 9mm is out with the MSRP of $999 and some places are selling them around $950. I did find a video with a field strip of the gun. The only cheap things that jump out at me is like all Girsans you only get 1 mag and the barrel bushing is a little chinzy. If I got this, it would be going to MK3 Firearms or Skips Gunz for tool steel internals and maybe some porting.

I know this was from almost a year ago, but Kimber has. They're using a different grip system, different internals, and the slide and optic cuts are different. It's also about $1500 and covers about everything you were looking for. About the only complaints are there's not a lot of traction and grips are currently only offered by Kimber.
