Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I only have 2 Sigs, but they are both great guns. I have a West German P220 in .45ACP and a P229 in .40 S&W. I recently picked up a P228 9mm upper that I would like to be able to use on my P229. I believe all I need is the correct locking block/insert. MGW had a phosphated version pretty inexpensive, so I ordered it, but unfortunately they sent me a .40/.357Sig one by mistake. They said they were all out of the inexpensive P228 9mm locking blocks so refunded me my money. Here is my P229 and P228 slide. The P228 slide has a 228/9 NM (national match) threaded chrome barrel in it. Would someone please confirm that what I need is a P228 locking block to mount the 9mm slide onto my P229. Is there an inexpensive source for one? Thanks

Yes you need the 9mm locking block to use the 228 slide on your P229/40-357 frame. I have a P228/9mm slide and locking block to use on any of my P229/40-357 frames. I also have a Barsto conversion Bbl that allows me another way to shoot 9mm out of my P229/40-357 frames. Also about 9mm mags, the straight sided 9mm mags will work but I prefer the P229/9mm bottle neck mags that are an exact match to the P229/40-357 frames. and Welcome to that best place on the net!

Thanks for the confirmation Mustang-PaPa, I'm on the hunt for a P228 locking block. Have you ever tried to shoot 9mm from your .40 mags? I've read that they work fine, but won't get to try it until I get the correct locking block.

I would like to know if you have the P228 barrel that came with the P228 slide? Did the 228 slide come with the National Match barrel only? I have a few of German I think P228 three dot Locking Inserts. One Locking insert is used in good shape. Also extra other P228 parts from two gun Jay. (recoil spring is plain with no paint) 0 I myself do not own a .40S&w P229 pistol so I am not sure about the 228 slide assembly working. My E-mail address is in my profile. Your's is not in your profile. Talk to me for a good time. translation: good Locking insert for free; will outlast the frame

fjgiie, The slide only came with the threaded NM marked barrel, no stock barrel included. I'll send you an email about the locking block

I have not as I have always had P228/9mm mags. Had my P228 before I ever bought all the P229's I own now.

I've used 9mm in 229 .40 mags with a 228 slide on a 229-1/.40 Cal frame, using a 228 locking insert. Seemed to work at the range without any drama. The 9mm mags for that frame are the 229-1 ones.

Thanks powermad. I'll try the .40 mags first, but I'll be on the lookout for some 9mm P229-1 mags.

I received a package from fjgiie and he sent me a bunch of goodies: P228 locking block/insert P228 barrel, spring and guide rod some decocking lever shims in different thicknesses Everything appears to work great, both the threaded and non-threaded barrel work in the P228 slide with the new locking block. 9mm rounds manually cycle through the action smoothly. I'll get it to the range soon and report back on live firing the gun. The shims are a great addition - I put one on my P229 and it made the decocking lever much smoother. I used an extra one to put on my old P220 with similar results. I used a 0.007" shim on both guns: A big Thank You to fjgiie and everyone else that shared info!

UPDATE: I finally got to try out the gun with the P228 slide. It functioned perfectly with both 9mm barrels. I used my .40/.357 Sig mags when shooting. I can fit 15 9mm rounds in a mag. I will eventually get a few P229-1 9mm mags, but for the range the .40 mags worked fine.

I bought a 229 slide within the last two years, a complete slide in 9mm with a Romeo already installed from the factory. This is the long extractor slide with a barrel marked 229-1. It worked fine on my 228. Last winter I bought a 229 in .40 and I believe this is a 229-1. The same 9mm slide with the red-dot worked fine on the .40 frame. I think I read above that the 228 slide on the 229 frame will not work without that locking block change. But I used a 229-1 slide on my 228. Is the problem only a one-way problem?
