Went shopping yesterday for a few things firearm related and came across 3 of these Berettas in the pistol case. I did not hold one as the counter was ridiculously busy and people were buying pistols and rifles like crazy.
Showing discontinued on the Beretta site. Decent price at just a hair over $600.
Anyone have one of these? Worth maybe picking up?
TIA.

I like mine. It has a full sized grip and slightly shorter upper. What's not to like?

I have one. I liked it enough I went back and bought the Compact as well. Great gun, best of stock 92 breed out there for duty style guns. It has everything I want in a 92.

There is a reason the 92 is one of the greatest handguns of all time - no matter what the configuration. Cool

I also have a 92X Compact. I really like the gun...it had an excellent trigger out of the box...smoother and much shorter reset than my classic 92FS. I'm finding that I really appreciate the Vertec style grip as well. My compact holds 15 rounds in flush fit magazines, and I can still get a full grip on the gun even after swapping out the factory baseplates with the pinky extensions for flat ones.

IMO, the 2 or 3 extra rounds that I'd get in the Centurion don't really offset the disadvantages of trying to conceal the larger grip...but if your hands are too wide for a full grip on the compact, the Centurion might be advantageous for you.

A couple of Negatives:

The fit and finish of my 92X is not up to par with my old-school 92. The finish on the slide looks like paint (maybe cerakote?), and there's some kind of visible aberation in the bore, but it doesn't appear to have a negative effect on accuracy.

My DA trigger went dead after about 600 rounds. I had a thread about it on here a while back. I fixed it by stoning the trigger bar back into spec, but the jury is still out on whether or not there are any metallurgical problems with the trigger bar that contributed to the issue and might cause it to reocurr. I have about 300 rounds through it since the fix with no further issues, but that's not enough yet to satisfy me that it's going to be dependable for carry. Apparently others have had similar issues.

My original thread on the issue: https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/2340031694

The reddit post that was sent to me by member dcowboyscr regarding another 92X owner who experienced the same problem (includes video):

https://www.reddit.com/r/Beret..._app&utm_name=iossmf

I'm not saying they all have this problem, but it's something to be aware of and watch for.

I had an old Centurion that did something similar. I never mentioned it before because it was the product of one of the few times I got screwed buying from a gun forum. The guy totally misrepresented the condition of the gun. It was a shitfest. At the time (long time ago) I wasn't a big 92 guy and not well versed on taking it completely apart. If it happened today I would respring every single spring and replace a bunch of stuff, back then I didn't really know how and was pissed off enough to not give a shit. Traded it with full disclosure for a G23 package. Both of us happy.

Anyway, it was the trigger bar spring. Once I replaced that it was ok. But the love was gone.

As for the 92X color/coating/anodize/whatever. One is blueish and one is blue gray. I kind of like it. It ain't black though. lol

Yeah, the frame definitely isn't black. Mine is like a grayish purple. It's even and consistent, though, and I don't mind it. It's the finish on the slide that's sorta janky. I bought it to shoot, not necessarily to look at it, so it isn't a huge deal to me, but figured I'd mention it as some might care.

Honestly, I probably ought to just buy an LTT trigger bar for mine and just call it good....but at this point I'm carrying other stuff anyway and I'm kinda curious to see what happens to the stock trigger bar over time. If I was depending on that gun for self defense, that bar would already be gone.

I hear you. Stock trigger bars for 92’s are straight up cheap. Hell I have about 5 of them lying around. The LTT latest greatest version is not so cheap. Lol. I would try one but at this point I doubt it would be worth the squeeze in my guns.

The LTT trigger bar & TJIAB make any 92 into something amazing!
I don't have any interest in the 92x's. I like the older 92fs' (must be the boomer in me)
I will say that two of my favorites, the M9A1 & my 1996 Centurion both have the LTT "treatment" & the only difference I can tell is the Centurion seems to balance better for me. Works out well for me though as my 15yr old son has laid claim to the M9A1.
For $600, I don't see how you could go wrong for a 92X.

Gents,

I have a 92X Compact and a full size 92X. Both are stellar carry pistols...tho' I prefer the compact.

I put another 50-75 rounds through my 92x compact this afternoon. Not a single hiccup, and I actually shot it better than my full-size 1911. I love the sights...lots of room to center that front post in the rear notch...and that smooth roll-through trigger is supurb.

I went head-to-head against my son with his CZ75D Compact on the dueling tree...but with the caveat that we each had to decock after every other shot. So you had to work that DA pull and then transition to SA, then do it all over again. Good trigger control practice, and it put extra miles on the DA tab of my trigger bar, which is still holding up well. I'm enjoying the excuse to put more time in on this gun...it's just a joy to shoot.

Too bad this modern rendition of the "Centurion" isn't also available without the stupid unsightly rail. At least the 92X Compact is offered both ways AFAIK.

The more and more I shoot my WC Centurion Tactical, the more I think the Centurion is the sweet spot for 92 line.

For me, it just seems to handle/shoot/balance better than the other 92s. In the matches I've shot with it, my accuracy is always better. Similar to a Glock 45, I think it's a perfect combination of grip, slide mass, recoil impulse, etc.
It's also a breeze to carry (it's actually one of my primary carry guns) and conceals surprisingly well.

However, I think I'm going to sideline it as a CCW and make it my main competition gun for awhile.

Gents,

Being "older" I well remember the adoption of the M-9. I detested the M-9 for a lot of reasons. I'm smaller and it was hard to shoot even tho' I shot high expert with the 1911. Something about the pistol fit my small hands. The modification to the "X" configuration and straight back strap changed all for me and I'm now a big fan of the 92X. It's a good pistol (now), IMHO. Before I wouldn't have give you money to blow it to hell...

Just one old codger's new opinion.

The Centurion is my favorite 92 variant just like the Commander is my favorite 1911 in 9mm. If they ever made a Centurion with a frame mounted safety, my wallet is in trouble.

The Vertec frame is nothing new. It came out in the 90's and was cancelled for the GWOT orders and Beretta wanting to shift focus to the PX4.

I have one and like it a lot. There is no denying the 92 is a big pistol, and a 9mm just doesn't need to be quite that big. I like the full length grips with big magazines. I got some really skinny grips for mine. But the smaller slide is nice, and reduces size nicely in a useful way. Mine is older, with no rail.

I will switch mine to decocker only some time.
