I always thought that the weakest design element of the Rhino was the way the grip was designed. I also noticed that shooting a Rhino with the wood grips was somewhat more uncomfortable than shooting a Rhino with rubber grips.

But the bore axis on the H9 appears to be just above the plane of the wrist, (unlike the Rhino where it sat just below the plane of the wrist) still allowing some torque/muzzle flip to help with overall energy dissipation/recoil control.

Time will tell of course. I would love to shoot an H9 all the same.

Hmm...I would've thought that it would be heavier than a P226 given that its frame is supposed to be steel.

I may bitch a lot when it comes to Sig putting a rail on practically every pistol, but seriously WTF was Hudson thinking putting a rail on this gun? I can't imagine a light hanging below my wrist and adding to the potentially unbalanced nature of the gun.

At first blush I thought it was an integral laser or light hanging below the barrel.

The gun was designed by shooters, and not corporate bean counters. I'm sure it's a great shooter.

Seems like a missed opportunity to have a striker-fired 1911 design that fits existing 1911 holsters. Every striker-fired gun I can think of has the recoil spring assembly under the barrel. I'm not an engineer, but why re-invent the wheel?

This is not just under the barrel. By lowering the bareel/bore access, they had to move the whole recoil system to the dust cover area. This significantly lowers the bore axis to just over the hand. Lower the access the less felt recoil.

Looks are starting to grow on me. Like something out of Bladerunner.

My bet is Hudson's fate will be worse than Kahr. All that (practically nonsense) engineering and the end result is a bore axis no lower than a bog standard Glock. Then with a grip angle that is more vertical than a 1911 (nevermind an A1 or a Glock), the effective bore axis is moved even higher.

It's *gasp* a NEW GUN! And priced well against other higher-grade guns like the Legion and Wilson Beretta for which it will compete with more directly.

It's not a me-too Glock. If it was they'd be crazy. It's not a me-too 1911. We've got enough of both (and like 3 more Glocks from other brands came out at SHOT this year).

It's different. I like it. If they can get it out to market and reports are good it might make it into my safe instead of a Legion this year.

I checked out the H9 at Shot today. The gun felt great in my hands and the sear reset was like a 1911. One of friends was able to shoot a few rounds through it at media day and he was impressed too. I also wonder about the low light rail and will try to go back tomorrow and ask about that.

One advantage of the light being hung in the Deep south is the lens won't get covered but muzzle blast fouling.
