10mm. It's like two
40s with every shot.

I certainly hope some version of the G29 continues to exist. I’ve been a 10mm guy since the late 80s. My username should give that away. But it also isn’t a must have. It is one I have hoped to land as a steal. Just this weekend I saw a used one at AIM Surplus for $449. Then on Saturday, Palmetto sent an email for a gen 3 at $429. Had I not dropped way too much on more collectible Sigs over the past two weeks I would have picked up one of them. I will continue to look for a great deal on a G29. I expect to find one some day. I don’t believe that Glock will walk away from 10mm for long. I lived that for most of the 90s and early 00s. 10mm is more alive today than when it was when I first started following that cartridge. I’ll wait and see where the G29 goes.

Not to be too flip, but I would love to see what "peak" popularity of the .45 G.A.P. looked like versus "declining" popularity. I'm picturing "peak" as short and very tiny spike in the graph, and "declining" popularity simply falling off the cliff.

..still scratching my head on them dropping all but the Gen. 3 Model 17s (per oddball's link to the Glock USA webpage) if I'm looking at it correctly. Maybe the G17 will be the introductory model for the next generation?

And if I stumble upon a Gen. 5 23 out in the display cases in the not-too-distant future, it may come home with me.

I can understand why the Glock 17, 19, and 26 Gen 3 are still going to be produced 9mm is the number 1 caliber Glock sells to the California market which is very large amount.

I'm a little let down that the Glock 34 Gen 3 is going away. Yes there is tons of them available new and used and the they haven't dried up yet on the newly produced models, I still see them on store shelves. So no panic buying yet. But since it's aimed at competition not too many people buy them for home defence vs a 17 or 19.

Always wanted one to send to Taran Tactical to get modded like in John Wick 2 but the ridiculous price they charge and the up to 10 month turn around time always held me back.

What's going away is the Gen 5 G17 MOS, not the Gen 5 G17.

OK Now I am totally confused.

Why would Glock drop the Gen 5 G17 MOS model? I would think that would be their most popular model among law enforcement right now.

Thanks, Para. My mistake; I had to look again. Couldn't believe that they would sideline the model that made them famous almost entirely.

Maybe coming out with Gen 6 G17 MOS?

Agree why would they discontinue the MOS version, perhaps it's just not selling... with all the micro 9's out there and shield mags to choose from as well as the G45

I'm a little muddy on what they're doing. I get that they're phasing out the MOS. I know the COA comes with an Glock-exclusive Aimpoint collaboration optic. Is Glock coming out with models that have the Acro and COA/A-CUT footprint? Because what I'm seeing is that those are different animals.

All this pistol dot footprint stuff is new to me, and seems needlessly confusing.

Yeah, doesn't make much sense for Glock to abandon the COA optic's A-Cut in favor of the older Acro optic cut, especially just a few months after the A-cut's initial release to great fanfare.

Especially considering the Acro is an older, larger optic, when the trend with new pistol optics lately is going for smaller/lower profile (like the COA).

G17 MOS has been on the chopping block since the G47 came out. You want MOS and a full length slide, you get the 47. The guns are just to similar to keep manufacturing both. They’ll keep making the standard G17 primarily because it is still a heavily contracted item. Same reason they keep the Gen 3 guns around. I’m sure there is also a secondary reason that many gun buyers are also a nostalgic lot and Glock wants to keep the original(ish) model in the lineup.

I wonder how long the MOS cut will last once COA catches on. I’ve got a G19 COA and prefer it to the ACRO on my duty weapon.

The Gen3 models that remain are there solely because they are California compliant. The state of California by itself is 10% of the US firearms market.

It's a bit hard to imagine that the day is coming that the Gen 3 17/19/26 will no longer be produced. My house gun is a second month of production two-pin G17, September, 1998. I bought it Valentine's Day, 1999. I love this pistol. The action is so smooth now.

Gen3 G17s & G19s are still part of the US military contract. They aren't going away anytime soon.

Yeah, and the Gen5 Glock 17 MOS. That's like Porsche discontinuing the 911.

Glock is discontinuing these versions. You can bet your bottom dollar that they will reappear in a new iteration. The current Glock MOS requires mounting plates for most optics, yes? You can expect that requirement to go away.

For a new 9mm lineup, I’m imagining something like:

G17 Gen6 COA
G19 Gen6 COA
G26 Gen6 COA

Aside from the modularity factor (which is mainly just clever marketing IMO), does anyone actually want a G47 over a G17? I’ve heard the G17 shoots softer. True or not, I wouldn’t miss the G47 if it was gone, just like the G49.
