Those were my thoughts also.

| They can do better than a gutter rear sight. I'd like to handle one though.

| 800? I would be good for $150.

| Is the MSRP on these really $800? I handled both styles today at the NRAAM in Indy, and was thoroughly unimpressed. The finish looks painted on (very similar to what they use on their .22 leverguns, which are acceptable at their price point, but not on an $800 revolver) and the action gives off a Charter Arms vibe. I don't think I'd even pay $350 for one, but that's probably about where these ought to be...hard pass from me.
I was also underwhelmed by the Homesteader...heavy and hard to actuate the bolt release, and you can feel the bolt mass when you cycle it. I wanted to like it, but just can't do it.
I'd forgotten how nice their Big Boy leverguns are, though...I got to handle one with the side loading gate and I have to admit it seemed the equal of a Marlin for the action, fit and finish. |
