Guys Today at start of shift, I racked and loaded my duty 226 as always. End of shift I drop the mag and discovered the slide is jammed with a live round in the chamber. The slide is slightly pushed back, with the guide rod protruding out the front. HELP Not sure what to do with a live round in the weapon. Thanks as always Officer Dave

Making sure to keep finger well away from trigger, I'd try to slam my left hand into the rear serrations with an overhand grip while punching forward with my right. This should jack the round out and in any case has everything moving more out of battery.

Agreed. There isn't much else you can do. With the slide most of the way in battery, the round can't be pushed out with a rod or punch, having nowhere to go. I had this happen to one of my guns when I unknowingly chambered a round that, when I finally got it out, turned out to have a bulged and crumpled case.

My PPQ got stuck so bad I had to rap it with a padded punch and a mallet. Most of the time, you can push down against the end of a work bench or something. As you already noted, just be careful as you do have a live round in the chamber.

That’s what I’ve done. Put the front of the slide on a sturdy wooden surface with the barrel hanging off and push down really vigorous and hard.

Glad to read that you were able to correct the stoppage.

My first guess would be a bad round but I'd be hesitant to rely on the gun for duty without making darn certain that it was reliable and that you had confirmed what caused the problem.

What did the chambered round look like after you were able to eject it?

I had this happen twice. Turns out the second time a piece of debris was caught in the chamber. I have avoided problems recently by keeping my thumb firmly on the back of the slide while holstering. Some snug holsters will partially retract the slide as you insert the weapon. The slide can slide forward a bit when fully holstered, and a bit of something can get stuck. In my case, a bit of leather.

Check the barrel chamber for a piece of casing from a previously fired round. I have seen where a small ring of brass from the case separated and was bonded to the barrel chamber. The pistol will not go fully into battery on a slide release and will get jammed really tight, as you described.

Make sure you test fire before putting back in to service. Not much good if it doesn't work. Chris

In my experience a stuck slide as described by the OP is usually the result of an out-of-spec round and happens during recoil or when the round is chambered after loading. I believe the pistol never went fully into battery when the slide was racked. I doubt that the slide was pushed out of battery by the holster and then managed to stick that tight.

well it happened on a different frame. I have an alloy 226 frame and put the slide in question on it. Damn if the slide didn't jam after I loaded the last round. I load off my twenty round mag and then add a 21st round, topping off the mag. I saw an article that the mag may be to blame, not allowing the round to fully seat when loading. I switched out the 20 rounder( less than a year old) with a flush fit 18 rounder. So far so good. In addition, I went through the slide/frame etc looking for debris . I also dumped the duty ammo in the original 20 round mag and loaded brand new Federal HSTs. Need to get to the range to check function .
