Do guys really mount the "shroud" over the sight. Seems to add stuff that isn't needed.

If I had kept my romeo 1 mounted, I absolutely would have gotten the shroud to protect it.

I installed them on both X5 Legions in our house. It’s a range and gaming gun that gets smacked around a little not a CCW gun. On a CCW gun if I was inclined to use a R1P I would most likely not use it.

I mounted one on both of my RP1s. Adds little bulk and I liked the idea of some extra protection.
