Ranch Hand 22LR: Dependable Rimfire Ammunition by Remington
Remington Ammunition has announced the release of the new Ranch Hand line of 22lr rimfire ammo.

“We are thrilled to introduce the most dependable 22LR round Remington has ever manufactured,”

I watch many videos by a guy who tests different types of 22 Long Rifle ammunition. His video just yesterday was of the Remington “Ranch Hand” from a high quality rifle at 50 yards. His results were pretty poor as I recall, with 10-shot groups of both round nose and hollow point Ranch Hand running well over an MOA (or was it over an inch?). In any event the stuff was nothing to get excited about.

Strangely, though, that video seems to have been taken down because I can’t find it now, so I wonder why. Was he contacted by Remington?
I’ll be looking for other reviews of the ammunition.

Notice they use the word “Dependable” but you see they said nothing about “Accurate”.

Guessing they did this because of the millions or rimfire rounds shot (impossible to track dependability) vs. accuracy, which is easy to quantify/qualify.

Oh, yeah: dependable.
As I recall the guy was using a Bergara rifle and in his limited testing he had one dud round. He chambered and tried it at least once more and it still failed to fire. Dud 22 Long Rifle ammunition isn’t uncommon, but after seeing that experience “dependable” doesn’t leap to mind either.

The narrator of that video made what I consider to be a very good point about the lack of American-made high quality 22 Long Rifle ammunition. Maybe US manufacturers don’t believe there’s enough demand to warrant the expense and effort, but it means that we’re dependent upon foreign sources, and that 1. makes it expensive, and 2. limits supply. My comment about that point didn’t come back along with the video, but I suspect that both factors limit the popularity of precision 22 LR competitions that might attract more participants otherwise.

Until they start sharing reliability specs measured in duds/1000 rounds, I'll be skeptical of marketing. Shooting .22 in a semi-auto pistol does give you the opportunity to practice tap-rack malfunction recovery though.

Has anyone had experience shooting CCI Velocitor .22 LR?

I don’t have any personal experience with the Velocitor, but based on the online tests I’ve seen, high velocity copper plated hollow point 22 LR ammunition intended primarily for hunting doesn’t perform very well in terms of precision and accuracy as compared with other types.

The guy in this video is one of a few YouTubers I’m familiar with who conducts useful, valid tests, including using higher quality rifles. The results in the video are about what I expect to see from ammunition of that type:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yq-_rqLEzU

But of course if it’s good enough, it’s good enough. And as you may know, because 22 LR rifles are generally believed to be ammunition picky, the best thing is to test any load with one’s own rifle.
