I was sold on the HST rounds in all defensive calibers. I also really like the Ranger-T rounds in .40, but they didn't perform well through auto glass.

Not sure how we happened to switch to the Gold Dots, because I wasn't there for the ammunition evals. I know they are a good round, though.

I wonder if the .40 will make a resurgence in the future. There are a lot of fads and trends in the gun world that the FBI and PDs that have been overrun by YouTube experts perpetuate.

Another example is the loss in popularity of 12ga shotguns for police use. Many PDs have eliminated the 12ga from their patrol cars and replaced them with AR platform rifles. Obviously there are some circumstances in which the AR is a better choice, but there are also circumstances where a 12ga would be the ideal defensive weapon. The PD I work for has had some very successful uses of the 12ga shotgun. I see a lot more officers getting out new Benelli M4s out of the car on hot calls. I'm happy to see it.

I shoot the crap out of it and will not settle for less as a carry/truck pistol.

well since I was quoted in this thread,I thought I might expand a little bit, Pryor to buying my glock 32 I did shoot a ton of .357 sig reloaded at its peak and .40sw out of my 229 and really enjoyed it. I really think it is the glock design that adds to its unpleasantness. I haven't tried it again in a .357 sig for awhile but would like too just to see if it's still hurts enough that the fun is gone. Right now I'm into the 365 tac ops and legion and just love it.

I have two G22s in RTF2 with the gills, two P239s, a P226, an X5 226, and a Ruger PC4 all in .40

I had a few P229's in .40 but I didn't shoot them well at all for some unknown reason and sold them

I’ve been a fan of the nine for a long time… When I slipped a Browning HiPower in my belt the first time, most cops still had .38’s in their holsters.
But, I couldn’t resist the bargain prices on surplus .40’s, and ended up getting a like new Glock 22 Gen 4 for less than $300.
I already had a G17, so I was familiar with the Glock.
Found the G22 to be a great shooter. It did great with the 180gn HST I got at the same time. As for pain? No problem.
Though I had no serious plans for the G22, it quickly moved into the handy house pistol role…the pistol kept handy for house defense.

I have owned Glock 22, 23 and G27s and never found them really unpleasant to shoot but don't remember shooting more than a couple of boxes or so at a time of .40 S&W. The Gen5 .40 caliber Glocks have a heavier slide and from what I've been told, it makes a noticeable difference. The Gen5 slides are probably what they should have been in the first place.

I had a gen 2 and a gen 3 G22. They were tolerable but definitely not enjoyable to shoot. I remember at the end of a 100 round range trip, my hand was aching along with the grip texture being embedded in my palm. That never happens with a G19, and oddly enough, the .45 glocks don’t impart that kind of discomfort either.

No real surprise; in fact in some ways it’s surprising that it took so long to drop some of the models listed.

In any event this move in reference to 40 S&W models is just one more example of self-fulfillment of, “There’s no sense in making them because no one buys guns in that caliber.”

It would be interesting to know how the (evidently few) fans of Glocks in 40 will react. On one hand of course it’s not as though the guns they already have will suddenly go bad, but on the other at some point many gun owners look for replacements or backups and then what? Find a different brand that’s still offering 40 guns, or more likely finally make the switch to 9mm?

I have what is realistically at my age a lifetime supply of pistols chambered for 357 SIG and 40 S&W, but that didn’t keep me from acquiring a P365 as being more suitable for some purposes. I doubt I will ever change my belief that the two former cartridges are better defensive rounds in the guns that can handle them, but 9mm is good enough to be relied upon in a handier weapon.

Glock 23 Gen3 & Gen4 are not on the list posted in that video, although Gen5 is. Bigger surprises to me were G34.5 and other G34 variants, and several G21, G29, G30, G40, & G41 variants.

Currently have been shooting .40 out of my G20. It is my new favorite. Feels like I'm shooting .9mm out of a G17. I was concerned about the reliability due to the extra space in the magazine with the shorter cartridge. It is absolutely perfect and I have so far put it through the wringer.

I've had a Gen 3 G22 for years and have never thought it was rough to shoot. Much more accurate than my G19. Go figure.

Not the ideal cartridge/gun combo but it works for me.

I traded a Beretta 92 Centurion frankengun for a Glock 23. I hated shooting it. Eventually I found a great aftermarket optic cut 9mm slide, barrel, rsa etc and made my favorite Glock 19 out of its frame. I still have that 23 slide assembly but no hankering to ever use it again.

I don’t know if it killed it but I certainly wasn’t a fan.

It's not that bad to shoot in my Gen.5 G22, or an FN FNX recoil-wise. The Gen.5 G23 might be more comfortable than my Gen.4 though. I rented one (G23) several years ago at a shooting range before getting my own first. I limit myself to 100 rounds each range session.

I started on 357Sig, I never understood the .40 I still don't. I now carry a 9mm because technology just keeps on commin.

I hope the .40 stays around. While the 9mm has made huge leaps and bounds in performance and is the clear front runner, I still like how the .40 shoots from my 226. It is very smooth compared to the 229 which has sharp recoil by comparison. To me, .40 out of the 226 is nearly as benign as 9mm.

I suppose I have a slight vested interest due to the fact that since the 226 lower is identical to the 9mm right down to the locking block, I can swap the slide assembly in seconds to have the convenience of either caliber. Throw in the .22 conversion kit and it’s the perfect presto-change-o multi-caliber kit gun. The only reason I don’t have a .357 Sig barrel in the mix is the cost and lack of availability of the ammo. I would probably add it for the novelty if I had a few thousand rounds of the stuff lying around but that ship has probably gone over the horizon as it were.
