Chronograph: recently acquired Garmin Xero. (I'm digging it.) Figures rounded to the nearest decimal.

16-inch Ruger AR-556, 5.56x45, 55-grain FMJ (aka M193): average 2,960 f/s for 10 shots. Didn't keep track of the brand. I'd expect them to perform about the same.

16-inch S&W M&P15-22, 40-grain HV solid: average 1,158 f/s for 10 shots. Again, didn't keep track of the brand.

3.1-inch P365, IMI 9mm Luger, 115-grain JHP: average 1,106 f/s for 11 shots. (This surprised me a little.) This time using the "muzzle 'smash'" calculator, average for this was 313 ft. lb.

2.7-inch Ruger LCP Max, WWB .380 ACP, 95-grain FMJ-FP: average 852 f/s for 5 shots. Average "muzzle 'geewhiz'" was 145 ft. lb. The real kinetic energy would be slightly higher, but not much, as I entered 90 grains.

I was expecting that it would be lower, around 1000-1050 f/s, coming from such a short barrel (only ~2¼ inches of actual rifling) and not being marketed as a "short barrel" or "+P" load. It will be interesting to see how some other loads perform as I work with the chrono more. I have some Sig-branded and marketed specifically for the 365.

Here are some more results from today's range trip.

M&P15-22, Winchester Super-X Power Point 40-grain HP, advertised 1,280 f/s, averaged 1,273 f/s for 10 shots.

Same load, 20-inch Springfield Armory 2020 Rimfire (Turkish-made bolt-action), averaged 1,284 f/s for 10 shots.

Also in the Springfield, Aguila Super Extra, 40-grain solid, advertised 1,255 f/s, did 1,219 for 10 shots.

Ruger AR-556, "Monarch" (Academy house brand, variously made in Brazil, Serbia or Turkey) 5.56 M193: 10 shots averaged 3,085 f/s, 1,162 ft. lbs., 20.0 SD. Another load* did 3,016 f/s, 1,111 ft. lbs., 26.6 SD.

M&P15-22, CCI Mini-Mag 40-grain solid, advertised 1,230 f/s: 10 shots 1,232 f/s.

4.5-inch Ruger Mk IV, Winchester Super-X 40-grain solid, advertised 1,330 f/s from a rifle: 9 shots 1,080 f/s.

P365, Sig-branded/advertised as being short barrel optimized, 115-grain JHP: 1,075 fps, 295 ft. lbs. for 4 shots.**

P365, Winchester "Defense" 115-grain JHP, advertised 1,145 f/s (probably from a longer barrel): 10 shots 1,025 f/s, 268 ft. lb.

The above two are actually about what I'd have expected out of the 365's short barrel, but are still somewhat inferior to the IMI (which also has an aggressive, serrated HP) in the first post. If available I might look into obtaining some more.

* Most likely WWB. I loaded the magazine weeks, possibly months, ago, before getting the chrono. WWB is advertised as 3,180 f/s, but probably out of a longer barrel.

** All I had left.

The advantage of having a way of determining the facts rather than relying one someone’s claims:

Thanks for the rest of the report.

Today's session:

22-inch Browning AB3
Cartridge: 6.5 Creedmoor
Norma "Whitetail" 140-grain flat base soft point
Advertised velocity: 810 m/s (2,657 f/s)
10 shots
Average: 2,597 f/s
Energy: 2,094 ft lb. (advertised 2987 joules or 2203 ft.lb.)
SD: 16.4

Same rifle with Sellier & Bellot "Tactical Ammunition" 140-grain FMJ-BT
Advertised velocity: 2,657 f/s
10 shots
Average: 2,690 f/s
Energy: 2,249 ft lb. (advertised 2,094)
SD: 18.8

20-inch Howa 1500 Mini-Action*
Cartridge: 7.62x39
Fiocchi Range Dynamics 123-grain FMJ
Advertised velocity: 2,375 f/s
10 shots
Average: 2,375 f/s
Energy: 1,540 ft lb.
SD: 27.7 (No such thing as "match-grade" in this cartridge.)

* This is a neat little rifle for short/medium range hunting (if I were a hunter). Its action length is proportionate to the length of the cartridges it's chambered for (.223, 7.62x39, 6mm ARC, 6.5 Grendel). It's also threaded for a suppressor, and you can get 255- and 182-grain subsonic from Hornady and PPU, respectively. Perhaps some day.
