As in the subject line, what do you all like for a HK USP 45 Tactical and why? Lots of discussion for the 9mm but not a 45ACP. This would be a first suppressor of any kind. Thx __________________________ | ||

suppressors are a lot of tradeoffs do you have any order of things that matter. Absent something specific in your list of things that matter I would do a DA Mojave 45 as my first choice. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.” | |||

Do you intend to shoot it primarily suppressed? I enjoy .45's with a can much more than 9mm. I'm less worried about ammo capacity, and the bigger/heavier guns balance better with a suppressor comparatively. 230gr is subsonic and I've found most ball ammo in .45 to shoot relatively smooth and clean suppressed, compared to 9mm that tend to feel harsh, 115gr ball can go supersonic pretty easily, so you need to shoot "special" ammo if you're stocked up on bulk 9 that pushes over 1100fps in your gun. I have a USP 9, a USPc 9, an HK45, an HK45c, and a Mk23. My nines don't have threaded barrels, and all the 45s do. | |||

I have sang its praises here before, and it is an old model, but the AAC TiRant 45M cans have been great on my HK .45 models. Mark 23, USP 45 with threaded barrel, and USPc 45 with threaded barrel…the TiRants make them feel like air-compressed nail guns. Used silencers are available much more now than before the tax stamp dropped to $0. If you can find a good, used TiRant 45 model (normal, (M)odular, or (S)hort) for a few hundred bucks I would snag it. There are good current-production models out there. I have various pistons for the TiRants so will stick to that platform until I can’t find them! | |||

If you are going old school you might as well be athentic and find a KAC Mod. or a B&T Impulse mk23 (this might actually still be available in new production). I don't see many suggestions here. Of the half a dozen .45 cans I own as I said above the DA Majove 45 is the best of them. I have a grand total of 5 demo rounds on .45 suppressors, just to let you how little I know about the 45 suppressed 45 platform. I like 45s, but getting one setup for suppressed has been, so far down the list for me I hadn't really thought about it much. I went to a demo shoot and a sneaky bastard in the CAT tent put an FN45 host in my hand with a CAT Saigon Peacekeeper on it and said try this. It sounded really, really impressive. Good enough for me to start thinking about getting a 45 threaded barrel and ordering one on the spot. Jay on Pew Science has started testing 45 cans, starting with the older legacy ones AAC Ti-Rant and Rugged Obsidian the top of the list of those tested so far. I don't think Ti-Rant is in production right now. I just got an AAC M4-2000 a "restomod" if you will, revised 3D print version of a 556 can AAC came out with over 20 years ago. I hope AAC continues with that theme and re-introduces a modernized 3d printed Ti-Rant in the future. Given CATs reputation for quietness, I wouldn't be surprised if when the SP is tested it's the best sounding 45 can on the market. I'd also look at the Mojave hrcjon has mentioned. The problem with using the B&T MK23 suppressor is that it’s a direct thread suppressor designed specifically for the RH thread pitch of the MK23. The USP45, as well as other non-MK23 HK .45 pistols, is LH thread. | |||

Just recently Jay was talking about this and listed four cans that are on his "personal target list" of .45ACP to test, the Cat SP and Mojave 45 are two of them. I'm really looking forward to this side by side comparison. I picked up a Cat SP a few weeks ago. It's the only .45 can I own but I couldn't be happier. Really impressed with the sound suppression. I bought threaded barrels for my HK45 and P220 and picked up a Kimber Custom Lw with a threaded barrel. So far I only have probably 500 rounds through the three of them combined but I've had no issues and they are a blast to shoot. Comparing Cat SP on a P220 vs Cat SC on a p226 side by side, SP is of course a little louder however the tone sounds the same to me. It can be hard to explain since it's just my personal perception of the sound, but to me the SP is really an SC with a little more "oomph". Long story short, I love the Cat SP on an HK45. So I'm sure I'd love it just as much on a USP. | |||

Considering that .45 ACP is inherently subsonic by design, absolute sound suppression is not as important as it might be in other applications. As such, tone, and aesthetics carry a bit more weight than would be typical IMO. I have a Rugged Obsidian 45 and I have nothing but good things to say about it, but I primarily use it on a B&T KH9 PCC with a Tri-Lug Adapter, so I can't speak to using it on a USP 45, or any .45 for that matter. It's a great can though and I like it enough that I've considered getting the Obsidian 9, which was not available/released yet when I purchased the Obsidian 45. If you like the look and nostalgia of the MK23, like most HK purists, you might consider the B&T Impuls IIA 45 which comes with a M16x1LH Thread, and basically looks just like the MK23 SOCOM. If you prefer the B&T MK23 SOCOM, the M16x1LH Impuls Device is available separately from B&T, and elsewhere when you can find it in stock. It's B&T P/N BT-12160. If we're talking aesthetics though, nothing looks more at home paired with an HK USP host than the SilencerCo Osprey!   This message has been edited. If I was buying one for my USP Tactical I'd get the B&T just for the history. The actual KAC is stupid expensive and hard to find. But once the asthetics wear off the B&T is not that great a suppressor compared to more modern ones. IMO (and restating) the Majove 45 is really the best of the bunch that make sense for this. The rest are nice (like I have several Obsidians) but have really been left behind. Its only downfall is its not hub. But you get a benefit from pseries which it is much smaller in diameter than it would be if it was hub. WKirk congrats on the new can! I have become a silencer nerd I guess, I like how Jay has worked in a solid baseline record of the older 45 cans. Now that he's done that it's time to move on to new tech, and SP and Mojave are the ones I most want to hear about. I just picked up a Canik Void 9. It's designed and printed by Otter Creek for Canik, and sounds pretty great. I understand Otter Creek will have a printed 45 caliber version soon and is going to release it as an Otter can. There's still a part of me that thinks suppressors take a year. It's a mind bender to think I could impulse purchase this online, have it shipped to my local dealer 3 miles from my house that's processing over the counter 4473s and have it in a week.
