I saw this video from Wranglerstar and something clicked. I had to have one of those Foxfires.

So, I ordered one up. 6-8 weeks of lead time as I understand it, but that's OK. I think it'll make a slick little EDC, and while I carry my Leatherman every day, I can see some utility for this little guy.

I never have been a fan a big blades, so this one is right up my alley. I believe, and experience has proven, that these little blades will do 99% of what a larger knife will do and do it better. So...the wait is on.

I have one, it’s a great knife. I wish the sheath had a little more positive retention, but I have not had the knife come out inadvertently. I alternate between the Foxfire and a Half Face Blades Diaster Cub, which is only slightly larger.

You know...I used to think the same. Then I had a buddy get into knife making and I realized how much work is required to build a knife from nothing. At an hourly rate, that's a pretty good price, all things considered.

You know that if you're looking for a tiny Scandi edge knife, that Morakniv makes their Eldris (S) or Eldris (S) light duty with 2.32" blade. 2.5" vs 2.32" blade is nothing. Yes Mora blade is thinner, but why would you want such a thick knife blade on that little Foxfire? Just makes it harder to actually use on small tasks you'd actually use that size of knife for. 80CrV2 is a great heavy duty steel for things you CHOP with. You aren't going to chop a thing with a 2.5" blade, and with a .125" width blade you aren't going to slice anything either. Mora doesn't use the fanciest steels, but no one has ever complained about their steel's performance or quality per dollar (about $32 bucks for the Eldris). You can even buy a accessory kit that comes with a lanyard, secondary safety lock, and firesteel.

I tried carrying several different fixed blade knives for EDC and for ME and MY usages I found them to be not the thing but I can see why they might be for others.

My problem with fixed blade EDC's was that for 90% of what I used them for was a quick pulling the knife out of a pocket, cutting something and then without looking folding it and sticking it back in my pocket. The key thing here is a short cutting need and then a quick restowing of the knife.

It was a PITA to put a fixed blade away! I had other take out the pocket sheath or pull the neck sheath out to put the blade away. I was used to folding the knife and sticking it back in my pocket without looking.

For MY usage the fixed blades were slower and inconvenient. Fixed blades are undoubtably better for lots of cutting. So I can totally see if someone needs to draw a knife and use it for a LOT of cutting a fixed blade would be a far better choice. For me the convenience of an easily drawn, opened and repocketed folding knife far out-weighed the inconveniences of a fixed blade knife.

It would be a good thing for individuals to try both and figure out if they want the superior cutting ability but less convenience of a fixed blade vs the ease and convenience of a folder for EDC use. Everybody's personal answer might be different. And HEY, there's no good reason to not carry more than one knife!!!! ...........dj

Remember, this is all supposed to be for fun...................
