Hello,

I will admit I don’t know squat about knives. I carry a decent folding knife in one of my cargo pockets for a backup weapon and well doing other knife duties. I have taken knife work classes and knife defense classes (actually one of my favorite D.T. Classes).

Anyway, I am looking for a decent thin not huge fixed blade knife that I can attach preferably behind my High Speed Gear MOLLE stuff attached to my Oregon City external carrier.

Anyone got any ideas? I thank you in advance and look forward to hearing back.

Esee 3 or 4.
The 3 is thinner in addition to being shorter.
Great general purpose knives with a variety of mounting options.
Hard to pick just one.

I was offered the opportunity to go to a LE defensive knife course in Dublin, OH.

It was hosted by Kbar and TDI.

At the time I just carried a folder as a backup weapon and ever entertained the idea of a fixed blade knife.

That course opened my eyes.

I carry a KBAR Original TDI Knife behind my duty belt just to the left of the buckle.

On my molle vest whether for the LE or the Military, I carry an Esse 3.

I am looking at something smaller and thinner like the Dawson Knives Serengeti. ( I just don't want to pay 190ish)

The only real problem with choosing a knife these days is that there are far too many choices. I agree with the choice of the ESEE-3. It's thin, as you requested and comes with a lifetime, no questions asked warranty. Get the S35VN version of the knife. It's stainless steel and scalpel-sharp.

Buy it from Knifeworks. These guys are tops! https://knifeworks.com/esee-3-...blade-3d-g10-handle/

116.95 and fast, free shipping

The only thing I don't like about this version of the ESEE-3 is that the G10 handle scales- while handsome- are glass-slick and they are a bit too slim for full-size hands.

Go to The Knife Connection and get yourself a set of their hand-filling knife scales https://theknifeconnection.com...es/esee-3-4-compact/

What are you looking for? How are you going to be using it?

https://www.bladehq.com/item--...ed-Blade-Dive--26850

It's a Spyderco, and this is the H-1 steel, so no worry about rust in a marine environment. Its sharp, and with a little maintainance, it's gonna stay sharp.

Here's a couple of just regular stickers. Nothing fancy, lower on the price end, and will cut stuff when you need it to.

Hard to go wrong with a Cold Steel knife. Pretty durable stuff for what you're doing as a Cop.

Take a look at some neck knives as well.
Cold steel and CRKT have some interesting and quality stuff.

Benchmade.... A lot of people have a valid problem with them, and understandably so. But you want thin? Well...

Another choice for thin is ESEE-

Want something that is going to take every bit of abuse you can give it? Here they are. However, kinda $$$. But if you want to hack through an ammo can for fun on a Tuesday morning... these will be able to do it, and keep on going. And they are NOT thin, or small...

I LOVE my HAK. LOVE the damn thing!
If you're looking at a small, thin, back-up kinda blade, take a look at these.
I have mine mounted inside my vest carrier. (On a cold day, you know where every cop sticks his hands? In between his vest carrier and shirt... Mine is on my left side) They come with a few different mounting options, I have mine bolted into the inside of the vest cover with the carriage bolts.

The Company has been through some absolute shitty times... dont know what or why... but as of the last 2 or so years, I've heard that they have straightened their company and problems out.

The ESEE-3 is a great choice. It’s reasonably priced, comes with a no questions asked lifetime warranty and is built in America by great Americans.

Well, you're set now. That MIL version of the ESEE-3 has a glass breaker on the pommel.

Yeah, I love Knifeworks, been a customer ever since they were called Bayou La Fourche Knives, or something like that. That was many years ago. Great South Louisiana folks.

Very nice! This thread got me thinking of selling my USMC Ka-Bar and buying an ESEE 3. It seems like it would cover anything I would ever really need from a knife.

Keep the Ka Bar, and save for the Esee 3. I own both and have uses for both...

Great choice. I have an older pre-ESEE RC-3 that has served me well for over a decade. (The RC-3 is identical to the ESEE-3 in all but name; back then ESEE was known as RAT - Randall Adventure Training.)
