Seriously, A man should be able to sharpen his own knives. Try a guided system first and then freehand later. Practice on cheaper knives before you try your nicer blades, you'll know when you are ready. That being said if you are all all thumbs and have no time to learn send your Ultatech back to the factory. :-D Remember, this is all supposed to be for fun...................

In essence, I agree with one should be able to sharpen their own knives. However... A Microtech is an expensive knife, and as much as I like my Lanskys and Spyderco sharpening systems for my kitchen knives, Buck 110, Emerson, Spyderco's... I much rather ship my higher end knives back to the manufacturer and have them do it right. Not that I'm against it, I'm not going to drop that much $ on a set-up like GrumpyBiker has. Well, at least not now, let's see what retirement brings. (Grumpy- Nice knuckle duster btw! ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Somewhere along the line, I got a carbon fiber / polycarbonate one. Nice, light, great for a keychain. Effective lil bugger too! I have zero idea where it is. lost or someone snagged it from me. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. One thing I have always sucked at is sharpening knives. I tried freehand stones decades ago, various V sharpeners and a lansky system. Can anyone recommend a so easy a caveman can do it system that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

It really depends on your specific price point. The TSProf system GrumpyBiker showed works very well and is simple to use; I love mine. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. https://www.lansky.com/sharpeners.html?page=1 Not expensive. Take your time, you'll get 'em sharp without messing up the angle or the contour of the blade. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot.
