He's been home with us for two weeks, and the 3 and 8 year old settled on his name themselves. Our youngest was adamant about calling him Wiggle Worm, which we used as part of his registered name.

He's a smart guy, so he's been picking up his obedience quickly, but also figuring out how to do things puppies shouldn't be doing. He's not as innocent as he looks.

Their ancestors both came from the same general area, so they have something in common.

A lot of people make this assumption. Doberman/Shepherd or Doberman/Lab.

Surprisingly none, but he loves anything the 3 year old owns and she absolutely throws a fit if he touches anything of hers.

quote:
What breed is he?

He is a Beauceron, which most people have never heard of. A French Shepherd going back hundreds of years, and where some other modern breeds (like Dobermans) got their start.

His dad is from France, and his mom was bred here in the US to French parents. The breeder owns two males, his dad being the smaller of the two at 90 pounds.

We lost our last two dogs 2 and 3 years ago. It was suggested by our vet that the oldest of the two was part Beauceron, and she was one of the smartest dogs we have ever owned. We had never heard of the breed prior to that. I told the 3 year old that there could only be one un-potty trained critter in the house at a time, and if she wanted a dog she was going to have to step it up. She did, and I had already been talking to the breeder so it timed out perfectly.
