Helmets, guys. Wear them!
Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

I as about 23 when a white Buick bulled in front of me at an intersection. I hit broadside and apparently went airborne over the car. I woke up in the lap of a very nice police officer who proceeded to haul me to the hospital. Lots of stitches but no broken bones. I was off of work for a while but recovered.

Oh, my helmet was cracked from the impact on the road. Thankfully, when the bike was repaired it was stolen.

I concur with this. I had something similar happen to me a few years ago, although luckily I came out of it in better shape than it sounds like you did. I was mostly geared up, and my helmet saved my face for sure. I wasn't going very fast, but I tumbled and slid, and my facemask was ground down enough that you can't see through it anymore. I probably wouldn't have a nose or eye if not for the helmet.

A few years later I ran into one of the responding officers. He said he was a rider too, and seeing my helmet convinced him to go out and get a full face helmet rather than the skid lid he had always worn before.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Wishing a speedy and complete recovery. I won’t get on my bicycle without a helmet. Too many distracted aholes on the roads nowadays.

I was riding double on a friend’s bike 49 years ago and we were hit by a car downtown Atlanta. He lost a lower leg. I escaped injury except for a bruised calf. I didn’t realize that my head struck the pavement until I saw that my helmet was cracked above the right forehead so I was fortunate that I was wearing it.

Glad you're ok.

Had a friend share Eilenberger's Laws a number of years ago:

Glad you survived to ride another day, sorry to hear you have to go through this. We can ride without helmets here, although I generally ride with one for the comm purposes in the group, phone, music.

Since you were the victim of the accident, you should brush up on the laws regarding filing a lawsuit claims as most have time limits, Grok says 5 years in Missouri, but I'd want an attorney to advise.

You don't want to lose access to all the injury benefits of both your and the at-fault drivers policy for medical treatment and recovery costs.

Most are not out for monetary gain but in your case you have a lot of injury issues to deal with outside of simple replacement of the bike itself including medical expenses, Lost wages, property damage, and of course the big kicker, pain and suffering. I'd be more concerned with getting all the coverage paid to you that you are entitled to, insurance companies won't be giving out information on things you don't know to ask for.

Since you're getting calls, might as well read up on Missouri statues on accident and PI claims. I don't know this firm, just came up in google.

Anyway, get better, and start browsing the motorcycle ads in your area!

I don't remember the wreck, and have a couple of brief flashes of being packaged for transport.

I have stitches in my left hand and right eye.

My right radius is broken, and my right wrist is shattered. Some of the bone made it out, and let itself back in.

Finally, my L1 vertebra is cracked and slightly out of place, but is a finally minor issue.

And thanks to a Facebook page dedicated to traffic accidents in NW Arkansas, you can find pictures of the medics working on me, if you're inclined to look. If you find them, feel free to post them here. I'm no good at that.
