Reading this forum has gotten me away from cotton socks and into wool (Darn Tough is the winner), but I haven't seen any discussion about underwear. I've worn v-neck tees and briefs forever, but most recently Fruit of the Loom from Walmart. I suppose there are quality differences between brands, and comfort is the priority. So how (and why) do you choose?

Duluth Trading. My last set of FOTLs were thin enough to use as skeeter netting.

Yep. Duluth Trading.

I prefer their Free Range line, which are mostly cotton, but if you want synthetic there's also their Armachillo, Buck Naked, Breezeshooter, and Bullpen lines.

Guide Gear briefs offer equal opportunity access (left hand / right hand) to your unit when you have to pee.

I bought a dozen pair a few years ago, they're still going strong.

Hard to beat Kirkland brand at Costco. They are far better than Fruit of the Loom and Hanes for the money.

I cannot remember the last time I used that little opening in the front. Undies always get pulled down just enough to let junior do his thing. I also have a weird habit of cradling both stones with my dominant hand while I pee. I use the thumb as a rudder for aim.

I'll be the voice of dissension on Duluth Trading. I must not be built to lumberjack proportions, because the two pair I bought from them fit my waist, but had to be pulled up so far, I could have used them as a onesie. And I have a relatively long torso.

As for which brand, I tend to go with the lightweight expensive stuff like Ex Officio and others because I can wash them on the road in the hotel room.

Their t shirts are nice and thick, I’ve been pleased with them.

I bought some Ex Officios following a previous thread here. They have done well. I've also bought the equivalent "32 Cool" brand at Costco and actually prefer them, but in typical fashion, they disappeared from the store after I bought the first package.

I'm an old guy, so I go back to the old style by Munsingwear. Typical cotton brief with the horizontal split to free Junior! I like them!
For T-shirts, I got some from roadrunnersports.com (black) and REI. Both are wicking tees, meaning the body armor carrier must be washed frequently. For me, it's all about being comfortable!!

I really like Saxx.

They have flaps of material on the inside that sit between your nuts and your thighs and prevent chafing and that sweaty, sticky feeling.

They have a number of different kinds including super soft rayon and performance wicking synthetic. Also in a variety of lengths and tightnesses.

They're expensive, though.

Like socks, just depends on the activity. For everyday wear, I'm good with Banana Republic's cotton boxers. I have an outlet near me, when in need, I can just run down there. If I know I'm going to be sweating a bunch or need quick-dry, I prefer ExOfficio's Sport Mesh boxer-briefs.

For the record, Duluth Trading Co knocked-off ExOfficio's Give-N-Go line with their Buck Naked collection, couldn't say the same about the Armachillo's but, they look suspicious. I know this as I used to rep ExOfficio, and I know one the product line managers at Duluth; also for the record, I really like Duluth's marketing.

The Sport Mesh line is a bit thinner and much softer than their original Give-n-Go's, I find them much more comfortable. ExOfficio's don't work for everyone, with all underwear, there may be some fit issues (If you like Saxx, than ExO's probably don't work for you), also be aware, regardless of brand, if it's synthetic, AIR DRY ONLY. If you want to retain the softness of those synthetics, DO NOT put into the drier as it'll cause the thin ends of each fiber to melt resulting in rough ends, ergo, a rough hand. Your wool socks should also not be baked in the drier but, air dry them.

Duluth Trading Buck Naked. Of course, Houston is a lot hotter and more humid than Washington State.

I have both Duluth Trading and Ex Offico underwear, and won't go back to regular underwear. I really like the Duluth Trading tee shirts too. Well worth the money to me.

Same for me. I prefer the exofficio to the Duluth buck naked personally, but the buck naked are still great.

I use Ex Officio underwear and T shirts. They can be cleaned in the shower or sink in a pinch while on the road. Expensive but very nice fabric and worth the money.
