My old phone is dying. My daughter wants me to get an I phone. How hard is the transition?

The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view

It depends on if you are willing to put in the work.

I would not say it is hard to switch over but you have to be willing to make the effort to look up how to do pretty much everything. It is a different operating system so doing the same action is accomplished differently. If you get frustrated easily then it will be hard. If you are willing to learn the new system it will go well.

Depends on both your aptitude for technology and how integrated your phone is with other devices.

It’s easier going from Android to iPhone than vice versa. iOS is much easier and faster to navigate.

It’ll take a couple days to get used to one button and apps, as opposed to folders.
If you make it a week, you’ll start to love it. A month in, and you would never consider going back.

I found the transition from a Samsung Galaxy 7 (work issued phone) to my personal iPhone X to be fairly easy.

ps: gave the Samsung back to my employer when I retired last December...

I made the switch several years back, had them transfer everything at the store. I did lose a bit back then but there have been advancements. That said when I upgraded from my 6S several months back everything propagated from my old phone to the new one because it was backed up on my Apple account.

I’m pretty sure you can create an Apple account, if you don’t have one already, and back everything up there. You should be able to sign into that account on the new iPhone and most everything should import. It’ll likely take a little while but I believe it’ll work.

I switched from a Galaxy 4 Mini to an iPhone SE because I liked the similar size. Took about a week to get ccomfortable but happy with the change.

It depends on your ability to learn new things and break old habits. I am completely self taught on computers and Iphones. Since your daughter is pushing it, get her to show you a few tricks. It is more intuitive than an Android in my opinion. Others may feel differently. It should be pretty simple as you are probably not going to be using a million apps.

Do not get suckered into using something like a Jitterbug or stuff they try to sell to older people. Vtail is in his 80s and is pretty up on technology.

I think you will be fine. I went from an iPhone to an S4 years ago and back to iPhones again.

iPhones are easier, and if you can't figure something out, you can just ask Siri.

I’ve had both android and iPhone and I vastly prefer iPhone mostly for stability and dumbed down ease of use. I am very tech savvy but in my phone I don’t want to tinker.

That said switching ecosystems can be difficult going in either direction. If you are comfortable with Android and entrenched with it I would recommend sticking with it. It offers more options and more versatility for a tech savvy user.

I am, however, entrenched in the IOS world and very happy with it and far prefer it to my Android experiences.

Both are decent systems with their own quirks. iPhone tends to be more reliable and longer lasting at the cost of being far more locked down.

My two cents.

I found going to an iPhone relatively easy. I tried to switch back to Android from iPhone and after 3 days of 90 million alerts and frustrations I returned the phone and got another iPhone. Plus anytime you can't figure anything out, just call your daughter!!!

If you're not a mobile device power user the transition should be fairly painless.

Don't know if it's your problem but the S4 has a replaceable battery. My S4 got weak and I put a new battery in. They are cheap too.

Save your data, ( pictures-Contacts, etc) before your S4 quits.

I lost a lot of pictures when my HTCM8 died.

I use Apple Ipads so I can't give you any advice on Iphones, but also use an Android phone, a Samsung S9.

You won't have any problem switching, if thats what you want to do.
