What kind of unprotected data? Passwords and such? "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Yes, my phone, Ipad and watch all had an update yesterday. My windows 10 computer did the same today but I don't know if that's related of just a coincidence. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

The below was sent out yesterday by the Cybersecurity Advisories for Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. This information has recently been updated, and is now available. Apple Releases Security Updates for Multiple Products 02/14/2023 10:28 AM EST Original release date: February 14, 2023 Apple has released security updates to address vulnerabilities in multiple products. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities to take control of an affected device. CISA encourages users and administrators to review the Apple security updates page for the following products and apply the necessary updates as soon as possible: • Safari 16.3.1 • iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1 • macOS 13.2.1

System passwords and other system-sensitive data can hardly be considered "unprotected." The advisory appears to refer to file system objects that are globally readable, or at least readable by the user logged into the machine at the time the exploit is exercised (or opens a "Shortcut" once they are logged in. This is far from "giving away the store to an arbitrary attacker," but is akin to a spoof attack, getting a legitimate user to perform an action that leads to an undesireable outcome. Yes, a globally-readable file might contain passwords (if the user is stupid enough to leave it lying around), but from the information in the advisory, I wouldn't worry about system passwords, or credentials stored in a user's Keychain (which are encrypted). Now Apple is famous for not giving the whole story, so it is probably prudent to go ahead and install the patches if your devices are not too old (looks like the cut-off, for Macs at least are systems built before about 2016). Apple has said that they will release updates for older builds of macOS, but they have said this before and never done so. From my reading of the advisory, it hardly rises to the level of "dump all your devices for the latest versions!" At this point in their evolution, it seems foolish to expect to get more than about five years out of a new Apple device. If you are inclined to "wait until the dust settles" on a new product before buying it, cut that to four years. (Not that other vendors are any better about this aspect of modern personal computing devices).

I have a very fast T-Mobile 5G Internet connection. Even so, the download and install of iOS 16.3.1 for my iPhone 12 Pro took at least 20 minutes. The download rate was probably server limited. Serious about crackers.

Since this update, I've lost my lockscreen photo. It's still there under wallpaper but all I have is a black lock screen and can't get the photo back. And I hate the GIANT numerals for the time. I've searched and can't find how to get the picture back on my lockscreen. Any help? __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

Long press on your lock screen and you will see a "Customize" button. Search the available choices, and you may even find your lost lock screen. Otherwise, create a new one (the '+' button), and add your photo and make any other customizations you had. When in doubt, mumble
