Too bad the good guy didn't have his gun on him, was likely in his car.
Too bad the gunman survived.
Bolded text by me.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - At least one person was killed and seven others injured in an a shooting at an Antioch church.

Metro Nashville Police rushed to the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ on Pin Hook Road around
Authorities said the gunman, later identified as 25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson from Murfreesboro, arrived in the parking lot in a blue SUV. He was reportedly wearing a neoprene half face mask. The first person hit was a woman who was walking to her vehicle. She died at the scene.

According to police, Samson then entered the church through the main sanctuary door and fired multiple rounds.11:15 Sunday morning on reports of several people shot. Reports stated the shooting happened as services were letting out.

Six innocent people were shot. Police said an usher inside confronted the shooter, who was then pistol whipped by Samson.

Police said during a scuffle, Samson accidentally shot himself in the leg. That's when the usher ran and got his own gun and held Samson at gunpoint.

Police said Samson was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was guarded and treated for non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released from the hospital and placed in police custody.

There just aren't enough of us good guys out there armed 24/7 I've come to realize. Why did this guy have to run to retrieve his gun? Are firearms not permitted in a place of worship in Tennessee?

No law against it unless the church is posted. It's the church's call.

We are the opposite in MI. Law says we can't carry unless the church approves it.

Yep we are vulnerable here too.....kinda. I 'm a little faithless and still carry. No one will ever know unless the worse happens. I suspect they won't be too hard on me if I have to ventilate a murderer.

In Utah, the church has to specifically and officially request to the BCI that carry be prohibited. They are then listed on the website. As far as I know, the LDS church is the only one listed. I can carry in my Catholic Church just fine.

2 things come to mind. One, why did the usher not have his gun with him? Two, how is it that the bad guy is still wasting oxygen?

On any given Sunday I know of at least three parishners (excluding me) that are carring at my church...it's just something known between us and it's really never discussed openly...concealed means concealed.

A church up in Lewiston Idaho has members that carry, and everyone knows it. Some of them are ushers, others provide outside security by directing traffic. One of my nephews is a member of that church, and he is ALWAYS armed, even where he works.

Another report:

We have an organized security team at my church. They are part of a nation-wide 'church security network' that shares intel, methods, practices/procedures, etc. There are church security summits where representatives from all over the country meet to share/learn/discuss security. I HIGHLY recommend that, if your church has no *organized* security team, that you bring it up with church leadership. Any church that doesn't have some sort of organized security detail is criminally negligent, IMO.

The whole saying "Those who fail to plan; plan to fail" applies here, IMO. Good on the usher. This very well COULD HAVE been another one of those 'mass shootings prevented by a good guy with a firearm' that the liberal idiots pretend don't exist.

My church had a shooter years ago; two innocent people dead. Fortunately, a member of the security team intercepted the shooter and stopped him before he could kill/hurt more (he had HUNDREDS of rounds on him and several weapons).

Only one person at our church that carries for sure and one person, our little old lady choir director, that told me she carries a 357 Magnum in her purse. I suspect there are others.

I attended some training last year in which it was noted that statistically, there's a greater need for a firearm in a church than a fire extinguisher.

Surprisingly, ABC "News" did not mention the good guy finally stopped things with his own gun.
