USAF - 54570 - Civil Engineering, Mechanical, Refrigeration / Air Conditioning, Supervisor We had a Cryogenics specialty shred-out that I never memorized which would've made the 0 a different #. Pretty much an HVAC mechanic, heavy on the refrigeration, when I joined it was known as the 'Refer Shop'. Still have a photo of my shop at the first duty station, that was our shop title until a politically correct commander took over. Radio dispatched emergency shop truck handle was 'Refer1', then same deal, political correctness & we became 'Chiller1' instead. Refer, Heat & Control shops were all combined around 1993 or so which led to my decision to opt out after 10 years. The specialty code changed then also, but I never paid attention to it on the way out. <>< America, Land of the Free - because of the Brave

USCG 1975-79, stationed at HQ in DC, Civil Engineering. Started as draftsman, progressed to specifications writer. There's no MOS/rating for that, so chose to strike for Storekeeper to promote. Stopped at E-5. Could have made E-6 but if I did they would have transferred me to somewhere they needed a 1st Class Storekeeper, and I didn't know shit about it except to pass the tests. Pounded wooden stakes into the frozen ground for Jimmy Carter's inauguration. Worked for them as a civilian for 11 years afterwards.
