I’m a pretty amazing chef. Trained by a chef, who had a degree in organic chemistry and food science. I wouldn’t ever do this as a living. It’s enjoyable and relaxing. Working in a restaurant is the polar opposite.

It sounds kind of lame, but I’m really good at giving gifts. I listen to people all the time. When I give a gift, it’s usually really practical, but also something that is really needed.

I’m also super skilled at fixing. Not just mechanical fixing broken shit. That’s easy.
I’m really good at fixing problems, or inefficient practices. I have this ability to think of some weird ideas, that work really well. Things that the average person doesn’t think of. Example, we have a bbq seasoning that arrives in a 300 lb barrel. It has tomato powder so it’s like cement. I bought the guys a garden weasel to break it up. They all think I’m a hero.

One thing I’m not good at, but absolutely love... Singing. I can remember and know the lyrics to an incredible amount of songs. I absolutely love to sing. I think I sound terrific.
The truth, I cannot hold a tune, I’m tone deaf, and have no ability to sing the correct note. Hearing myself sing is awful. So I only sing wen no one can hear me.

I can drink the hell out of a beer and smoke the snot out of a cigar, but my number one skill is spoiling my grandchildren. In my much younger single days I was a pretty cunning linguist, too. Wink Eek

Seriously though, you guys really do have some impressive skills! As for me, I guess I’d say it’s my diplomatic nature, loyalty, and patriotism. Oh, and my legendary humility. Big Grin

Remember the late 90's TV show "The Pretender"?

I can learn new skills very quickly, adapt them to a given situation, and do so with a confidence that makes people believe that I'm well trained in that situation.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

On a serious note, I can make bombs (as I’d expect from anyone who was EOD), I’m good at troubleshooting (the most important trait for jobs I held from 1995-2019), I learn things quickly and can teach myself by reading and watching videos, I’m mechanically inclined and I can look at situations and ignore bias when evaluating.

Currently at 29 and a half years in the Navy. With a good sextant and the right publications, I have done a lot of celestial navigation in the past. I speak German and some Chinese. I started taking voice lessons when I was 50 and my instructor was ready for me to audition after only three months. Also, I enjoy writing and have always thought about writing novels.

I can use a camera and take photographs; sometimes I get paid to do this.

I can cane and rush chairs (weave the seats and backs on them.. mostly antique chairs) a skill I learned when I was 12 working for my parents furniture repair business.

I can sing in tune.

I can cook (at least well enough so it is edible).

And I can get most dogs to love me.

I used to be one helluva GM dealership parts person/parts manager. Gave up on management in 1988, went back to counterwork. Parts for everything from Chevettes to GMC Brigadiers over the years, GM Performance Parts for a few years, we worked a lot of big shows from Florida through Michigan. Used to have a lot of connections in GM Parts to get things done that others gave up and said "can't be done".

Was a volunteer Firefighter/EMT for a number of years.

Restored a few cars, built a few modified cars for myself and some friends. Still help a friend with his small collection here and there. Motorcycled since 1967, dirt raced for a couple of years in my mid-teens late in the 60's.

Today, work part time in a Harley dealership, been doing that since 1999. Help a friend at his gun shop here and there, learning a lot from him and the gunsmith. Just tackled my first cold bluing job on a beat up 94, both the owner and 'smith said it looks good, me, not that sure of that. But I'm having fun learning. Started off-roading with my Jeep last year, another new experience.

And besides exasperating my wife of 41 years I'm also teaching my two grandsons the wisdom of "K
ids, don't try this at home."

I love to and am a good cook. I learned from my grandmother who raised me. She was from Germany and passed on to me the family recipes.

I am good with a rifle and hunt every chance I can. I can tie my own flies and can fly fish pretty well.

Although I'm not a woodworker, I've restored a few rifle stocks and made them look new again.

I’m good police. I’m really highly specialized now and very good at what I do.

If it has sights on it, I can shoot it.

I’ve also been told I’m a pretty good teacher. Smile

Aside from that, I have no other marketable skills.

Speaking of Skills, here is on that is apparently extinct.

There used to be a local place called Artistic Re-Weavers.

If you had a small hole in your expensive sweater or very nice expensive suit, they would re-weave it, adding nothing, just re-weaving it by hand with some tiny little tools that looked like knitting tools or somethings with little hooks and things on the end.

I had a brand new very expensive suit that somehow got a little hold in the most obvious spot by someone nearby with a cigarette. They fixed it and it was not visible or apparent at all. The damage was gone, completely gone.

Sorry about the thread drift, but it is sort of related.
