Go back and read what I posted. The subject moved from the reported figure of 900 rounds in this guy's car, to the wisdom and necessity of transporting that much ammunition in a vehicle from day to day.

Now, if you want to try and disprove the claims of the police, good luck with that. Examine all the photos you want and see if you can come up with an answer that's to your satisfaction , but read what I wrote, please.

Perhaps the only reason we care about this part of the story is that some of us actually do transport a fair bit of ammo and guns around sometimes and we hate the idea of that being suspicious or illegal.
Speak for yourself. I made a comment that carrying around 900 rounds is odd and then members start trying to convince me that it's perfectly normal. Well, it's not. What it is, is preposterous Rambo overkill from people who think they're going to fight their own personal war.

I mean really, who here doesn't have "things like hatchets, knives, and a fire starter" in his or her vehicle? You can only have that stuff if you're a hunter? And I just figured most members here like me would have a few hundred rounds of ammo in their cars most of the time. Perhaps not.

Guilty. I've also got binoculars, headlamps, N95 masts, multi-tools, shovel, saw extra, water filter, extra clothes, shoes etc etc. That's just for the daily commute too:-) I chuck it in and leave it there all the time. Often get caught out in the woods and all that stuff is nice to have. Would easily have 900 rounds of 5.56 on a range day. That's only 1 full single box. However, why is the guy getting all aggro with the police? If you know you have illegally converted Ar's with you, 1st thing you should be doing is paying attention to the traffic laws. If you screw up and get caught, the least you should be is humble and apologetic. What does lunging or getting aggressive with officers who are following the law do? This guy is sounds like a stupid knucklehead type.

If you look closely at the silver rifle you will see what looks like a pin where the auto sear goes just above the safety selector and the selector is in the full auto position. I would say illegally manufactured machine gun.

A thousand round of .556 fits in what size ammo can? Remind me, please.

I don't find that much ammo on board all that unusual at all, unto itself.

The unregistered FA guns however. Eek

That looks bad.

If he milled out the floor in his 80% lower and dropped in full-auto FCG and sear, then chucklehead better get used to DOC pj's.

IIRC it's 840 rounds of green tip per .50cal ammo can. I don't think I've thus far been creative enough to get 1k in a can in factory packaging, though I'm sure one of those first-fired reman companies that packs ammo in bulk in plastic bags could make it work.

That photo looks like about two Bug Out / Get Home / whatever Bags worth.

(2 rifles, 2 pistols, about three ammo cans worth of ammo/mags, and 4 knives/edges...)

Sure, a little over the top for one guy, and I find no fault with it at least raising an eyebrow, but countless posts on various firearms forums (more other places than here) suggest the general quantity and type of things itself one might carry around is at least a popular notion, even if unrealistic, though definitely with a dash of Rambo thrown in. Smile

I was expecting it to be more / crazier, I guess.

This dude seems more Stew Field than Terrorist, so to speak.

He's in deep shit if those are indeed illegally obtained/modified autos.

Sounds like "loaded 30 round mags" became "30 loaded mags".

it's where you signal a passing group of jet fighters from, with your signal mirror.

It was a ripping good story, even if completely fabricated in somebody's mom's basement. I wish I had saved it.

Agree with the above statement.
Yeah it is abnormal. READ the background on the guy. I do not think the article was terribly hysterical. The guy has major psychological issues. Simple as that.

I've been watching the back and forth, and (for what it's worth) I agree with you that not just at first glance...but in paper, in a news story...30, 30rd mags is going to always appear excessive for an every day carry in your vehicle. It got me to thinking what is in my truck right now.

Assuming I throw my armored carrier in there...and have my SHTF bugout backpack as well, I would have:

9 30 rd mags of 300 blackout & 3 15 rd mags of 40 S&W + the pistol with another 15 rd mag of 40S&W. So that's 180 rds on the carrier. Another 30 rd mag of 300 blackout will be with or in the rifle.

210 rounds. That's a fairly serious find in a lot of places, especially if there is reason to believe the person carrying it has bad/incorrect intentions. It isn't an every day loadout for my truck...it's a travel across the state into bad areas loadout, the necessity of which is an argument for another thread.

The my SHTF bugout bag has another 9 blackout mags and another 4 pistol mags & a 22 pistol with 1 spare mag. All of the ammunition in that bag equals 200 rds.

So we're up to 410 rds. Now throw in the 1 or 2 carry guns on my person, and my truck seat gun w/spare mag....and I still can't see getting past 500 rounds.

90% of my travel will never necessitate even this much. I'm simply prepared for the 10% of travel where there is a 1% (arguable) chance I might need or want it. I suppose if I actually thought I had a chance of having to fight a personal war...I'd bring more. It's hard to argue that someone carrying 900 rounds in multiple platforms isn't anticipating or heading to a personal war. Couple that now with the alleged fact (was it alleged? or is it fact now...) that many of, or all of his firearms were illegal....seems like a good bust that legal firearm owners shouldn't make a big stink about. For all we know a potential terrorist was stopped from an attempt to repeat a Las Vegas style event.

As para has also repeatedly stated....we're not talking about a planned range day, or some other reasonable trip where someone might take this kind of a loadout to a meet/match/etc. This person was potentially looking to start something. His behavior with the officers affirms that. He made a choice which is going to cost him. Either to defend or in punitive costs.

**edited to add: The way my post reads, it looks like this is a normal carry for me...I want to add that it is not. There are a few jobs and trips where transport or traversing through certain areas can result in a person needing to be able to completely defend themselves without any expectation of help from any law enforcement entity, for an extended period of time. It isn't common, and most people wouldn't travel to these areas with expensive equipment/vehicles. We get paid well to go to these places and perform services which also place an additional target on us. It's very rural Alaska, and we're in a monster recession and quickly heading in a not good direction. The loadout described above is placed into the truck for these specific trips...not a normal truck loadout. I have interacted with law enforcement on the way to one of these locations...and they confirmed that it was good I had it with me...and wished me luck, again letting me know LE would be nearly unreachable where I was heading. In other words....it isn't normal to even carry this much, let alone 900 rounds.

To be more specific I am referring to poor impulse control, difficulty handling anger, possible paranoia, and a major Personality Disorder. Those of us that are responsible gun owners generally do not fit into that category.

I carry 600-1000 rounds of ammo when I am heading to the range.....and only then, and usually 5 guns (but they're ALL unloaded and unloaded magazines per the local ranges rules).

BUT 325-500 rounds of that is a brick 22 LR. Then 150 rounds of .45, 200 rounds of 9mm, and another 100-150 rounds of .40 or .357 depending on what I feel like shooting......

But I agree this guy has double that (in centerfire rounds) and seems excessive.

Don’t forget that sweet optic!

It’s not unusual for me to have 2-6 flats of shotgun shells in my trunk at any given time. In a month I’ll easily go through nearly a thousand rounds between trap, sporting clays, and 5 stand, so the car is as far as those usually make it. Of course, I’m not rolling around 24/7 with a shotgun in the trunk, so it’ll probably be a little easier to explain to the 5-0.

I have it in a text file on one of my drives, but I've forgotten where exactly and haven't looked in a while. It's a hoot, for sure.

As to Mitch's question, I don't even know what a Stew Field really is, if anything, but my usage was a joking reference to some crap some fool posted here way back, and unofficial slang for some Rambo-wannabe/Gecko45-sort with delusions of grandeur.
