ALVORD, Texas (AP) — Talk about some serious coin.

Millions of coins spilled onto a Texas highway this week after a tractor-trailer hauling $800,000 in dimes rolled over in an accident, authorities said.

The spillage led to the closure of a portion of the southbound lanes of U.S. 287 in Alvord for about half a day as workers got on their hands and knees to pick up the coins in addition to using brooms and shovels and large industrial vacuums.

I'm glad I'm not the one who has to pick them up!

As Taggart would say, that’s a shitload of dimes.

If they were still made from silver I could understand trying to pick all of them up.

I would just get the bulk and leave the rest.

Doesn't anyone find it odd that someone needed $800,000 in coins needed to be transported by semi?
Even at quarters, that's 3 million coins.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

How is it that you think they transport all of these coins to distribute them between the mint and all of the financial institutions?

They've been using tractor trailers for this ever since they stopped doing it by train.

This is what bing search gave me when I asked for the weight of 8 million dimes.
I think it is off by a bit.

Once when on a road trip during the 1980"s (going thru Tennesse ??/ Kentucky ??) my vehical was passed by 2 blacked out Suburbans followed a 18 wheeler truck the 2 more blacked out Suburbans then I noticed a blacked out helicopter that apperared to be following the same path as if if was flying escort coverage...About 1/2 hour later while stopping at a truck stop for a snack and potty break I saw the same 18 wheeler and the 4 Blacked out Suburbans parked off to the side well out of the way with numerous men dressed in shades and dark suits and appeared to have "uzi"s / etc under their jackets...... Upon entering the building was told that it was a US Treasury Transport of bills scheluded for destruction... Took care of my business and about 1/2 hour later and on the road this group of vehicles passed me again and they were execeeding the speed limit and left me in their dust........................................ drill sgt..
