I have been a fan of Claxton Fruitcake off and on for many decades. Over the many years, I think that the recipe has changed from time to time depending on availability of ingredients.

About four years ago I stopped purchasing after I bought a batch for Thanksgiving/Christmas that I really did not like!!

Now, for the season, I bought a 3 pound batch to try again... sadly, the recipe is different and not to my taste!!

Does anyone share my opinion on the recipe changing from time to time?

By chance has Covid affected your tastes? I think recipe and ingredients have changed but also wonder if your tastes have changed.

You might try that. Hasn’t changed in decades. Available online.

Especially good with bourbon drizzled over it.

I'll 3rd that. Just a couple hours north of me. Haven't had one in a long time.

Got my annual claxton fruitcake in October. Tasted fine to me.

With ingredient costs skyrocketing like they are to restaurants and bakeries, I would not be at all surprised if they were using lower cost ingredients like margarine instead of butter and lesser quality fruits etc.

I am well aware of this trend because NOTHING out there is as good as it was pre-March 2020 to me. Portions are smaller, sandwiches are skimpier and the ingredients are skimpier or outright inferior.

Never had Claxton, but I get Collin Street every year and have always been happy. I’ve got two coming to me in the mail now.

used to sell them when I was in the grocery biz, and sometimes they were hard to get

not a fan of fruit cake, but I can say that change in taste is a thing,

I used to hate almonds, and anything that had them in it, always tasted odd to me,

now, due I Think to dropping a few pounds years ago (and since regaining most of it) I eat them often, usually a bag or 2 a month, (from Aldis)

Nothing beats homemade.

I guess I am going to have to set aside some cat setting money to try a fruit cake.
Seems like a pretty lame bucket list entry though.

Fruit cakes are like head cheese. You either like them or not.

I have enjoyed Claxton fruitcake pretty much all of my life. Second only to my grandmother's homemade fruit cake. They have been around for about 115 years, a staple in my Southern world. In fact, I had two slices yesterday. Not an uncommon occurrence this time of year.

I kinda like fruitcake, maybe not terribly healthy. Yes, everything in moderation.

Over the years I’ve heard the jokes. I think I’ll eat most anything.

C-rat and some MRE fruitcake is good.

I like good fruitcake, and the last I had was Claxton and it got all consumed....not at once!

Growing up, there were two brands of commercially available fruit cake that I recall. Claxton; they were everywhere.

And Jane Parker brand cakes from the Great American & Pacific Tea Company (A&P). Ordered one on-line last Christmas; it was pretty darn good.
The Jane Parker Bakery is still in operation. A&P lives on in the lyrics of "Christmas Wrapping" at least.
