If you are weird then I’m a psychopath. I’m only barefoot in the shower or in bed, and sometimes not even in bed. Beach or boat or pool? I wear water shoes. Even in my own pool in my own backyard. I have a tattoo on the top of my foot that I got with my ex wife about 6 years ago. The only people who have seen it are my ex and the tattoo artist. Even my kids have never seen it, that’s how rare it is for me to be barefoot. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

When we lived in the Seattle area it was common for people to remove their shoes upon entering another person's home. When arriving at a gathering there would always be a big pile of shoes at the door. Not sure if it was due to everyone having hardwood floors or the fact that it was often wet outside but it took some getting accustomed too for us. ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

I don't go to many parties, but I'd wear shoes. I almost never am barefoot--I sleep in my lounge chair and have my socks and shoes on even then. I would be barefoot only when bathing. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

It’s customary to remove shoes when entering homes in Hawaii. You can often tell if someone’s home by whether or not their shoes are by the door.

The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
It depends on were we are at. We are barefoot at home, if you show up you can kick your shoes off or keep them on, no worries. It was funny, my son came by with his family and my grand daughter organized all the shoes by the front door. There were about 1t pairs of shoes lined up, side by side, out into the great room. Maybe its being in FL but I wear flip flops or boat shoes all the times and kicking them off inside the door at our friends house is normal. “We truly live in a wondrous age of stupid.” - 83v45magna "I think it's important that people understand free speech doesn't mean free from consequences societally or politically or culturally." -Pranjit Kalita, founder and CIO of Birkoa Capital Management

What do you mean they show up barefoot? Like, not even sandals? During the summer I wear sandals quite often, but even then I wouldn't kick them off and go barefoot in someone else's home. Not unless it's something like a beach or pool party. But leaving my house without any type of footwear? That's bizarre to me. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

My floors are clean. We ask that guests remove their shoes at the door. On occasion, we will have parties that utilize our outdoor space together with our interior space, so we allow shoes to be worn inside knowing that the floors will be cleaned after the party. We do not go barefoot outside. Outside and public spaces are gross.

Beach, pool or with a request at door - yes All others no. I don’t care how you keep your floors it’s just weird to ask folks to take off shoes. I’ve had that happen, but only stepping onto a yacht. Which is perfectly fine! You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Funny that no one has mentioned Hawaii.. it's been over 20 years since I was there but back then it was impolite not to take your shoes off before going into someones home. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

Actually, P210 did, and I had a question based on what you both said: to clarify-so folks there take their shoes off outside the house before entering? Is there a porch or designated area that you leave them? No shoe thieves? Huh. That makes sense with the beautiful climate. And, yeah, that’d be a great way to see if someone’s home. Lol. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

Some people e.g. single women have been known to buy a pair or two of XL flip-flops to leave by the front door to let those with ill will think that there are a couple big Samoans at home. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

You kick them off to the side of the door before you walk in. A lot of people have signs by the doorbell reminding guests to remove shoes before entering, often including funny warnings against trading up for better ones when leaving.

Would I show up barefoot? The thought is so bizarre to me that it made me do a quick little blink and head shake. What?! Show up at someone's house barefoot? Of course not. Take off footwear after arriving? Well, maybe if the situation called for it. Like their house happened to be at the beach, or it was a pool party. That's about it. I haven't run into it too often, but I am also uncomfortable about being asked to remove my shoes at the door. I don't want to walk around your house in socks or barefoot. EDIT: Just realized I said almost the very same thing as Balze. Agreed. Strange concept to me.

I'd not show up barefoot. I normally kick my shoes off and do just socks if its what they do. We normally asks guests to kick off their shoes if theyre going to be there a while.
