There is the merrell website. There is also what seems to be an outlet merrell website - <deleted>.

The latter - has anybody used? Is it legit? I tried using it. But the payment process seems weird:

1) I got charged to a non-merrell looking entity; CC indicates charge pending.
2) the payment webpage actually errored out and wanted me to enter CC number again. I closed the webpage since the pending charge appeared on my CC account online. But again, instead of confirming charge to merrell, my CC is indicating some other entity.

Not sure if I should submit a fraud charge with my CC or if this is all legit. So much for trying to save a buck or two (well, actually, the shoe I wanted seems obsolete - final supply on the discount site only).

I would expect Merrell to conduct all retail business through their domain @ merrel.com

I just tried to purchase shoes at Merrell. The billing page at Merrell.com certainly looks like it belongs to Merrell. The discountmerrell site seems to only take Paypal and Stripe. I don't see a way to enter a CC number.

You may want to contact your CC company.

I'd stay away from any site who domain begins with discount and includes a well known brand.

Not only are they not authorized re-sellers but, no brand is going to associate their name with 'discount' as a prefix.

Fuck. Okay, scam site. Seems like others fell for it as well. I called my CC company and got new card issued. They will monitor the charge for 2 weeks and see if it moves from pending to charged. If so, they will dispute. Otherwise, should just drop off the charge list.

I changed my account info on the scamming website (it created an account for me with my address). They may have backups but I changed what I could.

I hope they FOAD.

Hasn’t Para asked repeatedly that we not post the website address of suspected scam websites?

Possibly, but I do not recall that.

Two sides to that coin:
  1. It is not A Good Thing to drive traffic to a scam site, nor to generate clicks.

  2. On the other hand, there is an argument that there is merit in warning people against the scam.

Yep, I wouldn't shop there, I just bought a pair of Merrell's on Amazon. I like their shoes.

First time I fell for a scam site. I gave them name, address and CC info. The CC info is obsolete now. Is there anything else I should be doing? Having my name/address should be no big deal, right? I'm thinking scammers could just buy mailing lists and I'd be one of them. Still, anything I need to do?

This is why you use credit cards e.g. the banks money.

BTW - Huge Lists of peoples names and credit cards are sold daily/hourly on the Internet. They even come from “credible” places like Amazon and Google.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. So, no additional real risk of them having my name / address. Except that it's a short list (people that come to their website).

They can't do anything w/ it except sell the info as part of another list?

As I remember, this was the reason Para gave for asking us to refrain from posting scam website addresses.

I can't cast any stones. About 2 months ago, I see an FB ad for a popular streaming service channel (I forget which). I've bought stuff by clicking on FB ads before. It was a good deal for six months. I gave them my credit card info.

Then I looked for the app to download on my tv, tablet, and iphone. The streaming service doesn't have its own standalone app. I could find the streaming service as an add-on to Prime Video and Roku. But that means I have to sign up through them.

I then disputed the charge on my credit card company's website. Explained the situation. They gave me a credit. And I've never heard anything about it since. I do reconcile my statements every month.

We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
