I thought the USPS operated without the aid of tax dollars.

That is correct. But people routinely believe because it's part of the government it receives funding directly from taxes. This is not entirely the case, as the Treasury has made loans to the USPS; however, there are no taxes specifically set aside for the USPS.

IMO, the only reliable ways to ship anything these days is UPS and FedEx. (The latter meaning the real FedEx, not FedEx Ground.)

I guess the USPS is too busy spying on American citizens to actually deliver mail.

In thinking about this thread... one side observation... if who ever the idiot was at USPS that said it was a gun the OP shipped, would not the next logical and legal option would be for them to send in the Postal police to arrest the OP for violating the law?

About 15 yrs ago I submitted a vacation/hold card to the post office for 2 weeks since I would be out of town with the wife. Came back expecting a ton of mail and even bought a carry bag for the haul. Postmaster said I did not receive any mail whatsoever and at the time we were getting alot every day. Needless to say I was late on a couple of credit card payments. Mad

Exactly. In the letter I'm writing for when I find the right boss at USPS, I wrote I would think USPS might take a gun lost in the mail more seriously.

They don't bother asking make or model or any kind of description.

I bet it had to go through the Nashua, NH, USPS sorting center. That place is a black hole where tracked mail can slide right through, sit for days before moving on or simply vanish.

ok, here's an idea

you probably won't like it

tell them you in fact did ship a gun

tell them to charge you

and then tell them to prove it in court

Yeah, not sure it's gonna help my defense of a bogus charge to which I confessed.

Some friends work for the USPS.

The advice is if you have a problem with delivery/receipt of package(s) be sure to go online and file a complaint. You can do any other contacting you wish, and it may or may not help, but doing it online creates a record about the service at that site AND it can’t be “wiped away” or lost by the people involved.

Make sure you include the federal description/defnition of a firearm in that letter. Also note how they (USPS) are also a federal entity and should be expected to follow said definitions as it is not their place to change definitions "just because." Wink

.

Last year I had a Priority Letter delivered to me but not actually get delivered to my house.

When I was talking to the person at USPS that it was not delivered to me, they turned their screen around and said this shows it was. I said that only shows it was delivered not that it was delivered to my house.

They were able to pull up GPS coordinates from when the delivery person scanned it going into my mailbox.

I live on a [streetname] "Lane" but the coordinates showed it was delivered to [streetname] "Court."

The street name was the same, but I don't live on a "Court" I live on a "Lane" proving it was delivered to the wrong house.

I expect the same system available showing where my package was scanned as delivered is available to all USPS counter agents.

AT my local PO, the counter people cannot see both tracking systems. The counter people can see the same thing I see online.
I have to go to the bulk pick-up window and ask for it to be looked up in the intra USPS system which shows every pallet of mail and routing that the item went through.

I have only ever had a few items that I mailed go wacky and have had to go and seek help with, they have always been helpful and a few times contacted the PO on the delivering end to confirm its delivery with the actual delivery person. Was always surprised when the regulars actually know the route and remembered its delivery on a missed scan that would confirm its delivery.

I know I probably am in an exceptional area but I have always had great mail carriers that even know my dogs name who likes them all.

Our USPS has become a joke. It take 4-6 days for a package to make it from Denver to Johnstown. A whole 52 miles. Are they back to transporting items via mule train?

They're milking the COVID excuse for all it's worth. What it comes down to- with all the fancy explanations set aside- is that the employees of the USPS are lazy and the people who run the USPS are criminally incompetent.
