can't make a gas engine in that size that meets the new CARB requirements. thus the CA idiots drag everyone down with them. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Honda makes a really nice little generator that's CA compliant. Except it isn't. I really wanted to buy one, even looked around AZ--none in stock. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

Yep. Small engines have got so reliable that even when they sit for months still start on the first or second pull. Of course you need to be mindful keeping good gas and such things. Polluting you say? back it on down Greta Thunberg, your farts (and yes you have farts) probably contribute more to pollution then a guy mowing his lawn with a well maintained mower. So maybe a cork in your ass will save the planet. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. I love my EGO trimmer. That being said you very cavalierly suggest multiple batteries. Have you priced extra batteries? I want an extra battery and decided it would be way more cost effective to buy a second device rather than buy the battery alone. I also wonder if future SCOTUS decisions will render CARB mandates unenforceable. We can hope.

Did you watch the video? This announcement was posted to the Honda Dealer Interactive Network. Plenty of references in there to conclude it's credible, including the link to the industry website where she confirmed the info... ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! I guess the good news is that Honda is going to continue to produce their small engines, just not the mowers themselves. There are currently a few mower companies who utilize Honda small engines on their mowers anyway, like Troy and Craftsman. So it may be that, while we won't be able to buy an all-Honda mower any more, we can at least still get mowers with the reliability of the Honda engine.

My Honda mower is only about 15 years old, but maybe I should pick up a new one before they are gone. Bought my first Honda mower about 1990, my brother has it now and it's still going strong.

Forty-five minutes on a riding zero turn, about twice that on a self-propelled push mower if I don’t have to stop for a pee break. Spare mower batteries are not cheap. Unless you have a tiny lot, I view electric mowers like electric cars - nice for small trips, but essentially useless for cross country travel. Basically a return to the stagecoach era when long trips could be made, but it was much more practical and comfortable to take the train if you were going more than a couple hundred miles.

I was looking at mowers this weekend at Home Depot. Sales guy said they won't be selling gas mowers after December. __________________________ My door is always open to Sigforum members, and I'm always willing to help if I can.

I heard about the same from a Depot lawn and garden dept manager in MD this Spring. But he said "if you want a gas powered mower you better get one by next year because after 2023 we won't be selling any". I've owned two Honda lawn mowers in the past, wore out the first and the second is still being used at our apartments. I don't have need for a walk behind any longer. Honda will sure benefit from more production capacity for their SxS's and ATV's because they've been in short supply for a while now. Well, that sucks. They are the best. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I just talked with my friend who is a dealer and he confirmed the rumor. He also confirmed Honda will be converting the plant to SxS as the profit margin is better. Finally, no indication they will replace them with battery powered mowers. He suggested I buy a few spare parts next summer just in case I need them. I have their commercial mower and it is only about 5 years old. My last one lasted decades so I'm probably GTG until I'm too old to mow myself. __________________________

Ive had 2. first got stolen from my garage, the second went underwater during a hurricane and was never the same, started using a lot of oil. Replaced it with a cheap cub cadet which has been a POS. I replaced it with an EGO yesterday. I have a postage stamp yard so don't need anything major ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

Thank you Very little |
Not surprising, when CA mandated the gas devices be off the shelf, most folks replacing gas are going to move to the only legal alternative. There now is quite a bit of e-powered lawn equipment on the market, electric devices are simpler to build, no gas or oil to mess with, over time batteries will be less expensive. My battery equipment is cooler, lighter, quieter, stronger and runs just as long as the fuel based equipment it replaced without all the fuel. Click n go...

Sorry but I'm just not buying that it's "stronger". I did a whole lot of research before settling on the gas Honda HRX because of the reviews that said the thing was a beast when mulching. And it is, I spent hours yesterday blowing and running over/bagging a couple metric shit tons of leaves to include thick, tough magnolia leaves that don't like to be mulched to get to my curb for pickup by the borough. All the reviews of even the top/high end battery mowers said they STINK at mowing higher grass and mulching up debris like leaves, that they just DO NOT have the "oomph" of a gas engine. I really did want to go battery but after reading that, I was convinced that they still aren't ready to replace traditional gas mowers. The majority of the ones I went and looked at and played with also felt light and flimsy to me.

For kicks I priced out how much it would cost me to replace my Honda commercial mower, tiller and 2-stage snowblower. The equivalent Ryobi, w/o the extra batteries was over 4k. With extra batteries, I'm sure I'd be pushing 5k. I'm sure if I matched the quality of Honda commercial with Makita, Bosh, Milwaukee, if they have tillers and snowblower, I'd be pushing 6.5 to 7k. And, I seriously doubt there is a battery powered tiller that could do hard rocky ground. And let's not forget a cold, heavy, wet snow. It's like cars, the technology is still developing. When I'm doing basic stuff, I've got my cordless gear. When I need more power or time, I plug in my drill, saw, etc. __________________________
