Aaron Rodgers says he owes his back-to-back MVP seasons to psychedelics. Login/Join

Common sense reasoning and judgment are seriously lacking with this guy. Promoting psychedelics as an NFL quarterback is just plain stupid.

Aaron Rodgers is might be the greatest quarterback of all-time, but he’s made himself look like an absolute fool every time he’s opened his mouth over the last two-plus years. Rodgers is the guy who intentionally misled the media over his vaccination status, spread disinformation about Covid, constantly talked on national media about being the victim of cancel culture, and for some reason told the whole world he likes to put oil in his butt. It goes without saying that it’s important to have a healthy amount of skepticism every time he speaks into a microphone.

Rodgers did another interview this week, and talked about how he had arguably the two best seasons of his career in his late ‘30s. Rodgers said the secret to his success a psychedelic experience with the ayahuasca plant that led to him having back-to-back MVP seasons in 2020 and 2021.

Rodgers appeared on the Aubrey Marcus podcast and talked about his experience with psychedelics, from taking magic mushrooms on the beach with his friends (which Rodgers called one of the best days of his life) to his experience ingesting ayahuasca. Here’s a clip from the interview:

AD

Rodgers talks about going to Machu Picchu with ex-girlfriend Danica Patrick just before the start of the pandemic. After climbing the mountain, Rodgers took ayahuasca and had a powerful psychedelic experience.

Rodgers talked about how psychedelics helped his mental health:

We talk so much about mental health. Marshawn Lynch had a classic retirement press conference talking about taking care of your mentals. We talk so much about mental health, and to me one of the core tenants of your mental health is self love. That’s what ayahuasca did for me. It helped me see how to unconditionally love myself. It’s only in that unconditional self love that I’m truly able to unconditionally love others. What better way to work on my mental health than to have an experience like that. The greatest gift I can give my teammates is to show up and be someone who can model unconditional love to them. Obviously it’s important I play well and show up and lead all that stuff. But they won’t care about what you say until they know how much you care.

Rodgers said taking ayahuasca felt like having “100 different hands on my body.” The side effects of taking it include losing control of your bowels and throwing up everywhere, which Marcus said is not inaccurate. If you are an Aaron Rodgers hater, at least that’s a happy visual.

While Rodgers spews a lot of garbage, having a psychedelic experience in an attempt to improve one’s mental health is one of the more reasonable things he’s said in recent years. He might need to have another mind-altering trip this year without Davante Adams around. For as helpful as psychedelics can be some people, throwing passes to arguably the best wide receiver in the league is a little more practical if you’re an NFL quarterback.

He’s a flippin’ football quarterback. Do we really expect intellectuals in this field?

If he believed it worked … OK.

Google Marcus Capone and VETS Inc. There's a slew of SpecOps guys benefitting from similar treatment. I could give a fuck about Rodgers but the use of psychedelics for this type of therapy is interesting.

I am aware of that. The danger is that psychedlics is being overly promoted as a "cure" for PTSD. Dr. Timothy Leary did the same thing in the 60s.

I have not been a fan of his until the vax bs. I loved the fact he gave the nfl the finger. I do not care what he does on his own time. He marches to the beat of his own drum. So what?

I don't think it's the drugs (or herbs or whatever they are.) If you had his money, looks, and status, you could swim in that end of the dating pool (the deep end) also.

"A" cure? looks like it's doing some real good in some circles.

"THE" cure? Probably not.

Micro dosing might be helpful. Full vison quests with regularity probably not. Ayahuasca sounds like a bad way to take a magical mystery tour. Adults should be able to do what they want unless they're hurting other people. Folks who take advice on such things from football players without doing actual research are fools.

I went down the YouTube Ayahuasca rabbit hole and the experiences people have are all very similar. I’ve never heard anyone say it’s a cure but tons of people have said it’s a life changing experience for the better.

Many people who have been doing 20-30 years of all types of therapy have come back from an Ayahuasca trip and have been completely cured of their ills.

If nothing else it’s unbelievably interesting.

It was a joke, FishOn. I know people who did that stuff back in the day and they are ok.
It was a poor choice using Bill Gates as an example however. We all know he's fucked up. Big Grin

I don’t think so. Many people ahead of this guy. Namely Montana and Brady. Sorry Aaron, you need rings to get in the arguably talk. You don’t have them.

It would probably surprise nobody familiar with me here on the forum to hear I have some experience with this, and an opinion of it.

I took enough shrooms to have an experience on just a handful of occasions, but it did offer me a different perspective of myself, and of how I relate to others. On the first trip, at a bluegrass festival in north Florida, my wife and I wandered around the whole campsite for several hours. I found us, at one point, sitting with a group of people who had invited us to their fire and gave us drinks and food. They were really nice. And suddenly, I realized I wanted to leave, but felt and overwhelming pressure to stay against my will. I then realized that I didn’t have to stay if I didn’t want to, and that it was ok to state a preference and leave. It remember saying “well, you guys are really nice, and I appreciate the food and beverage, but I feel really uncomfortable and would like to leave. This isn’t your fault, I’m awkward by nature and I’m tripping really hard right now.” They smiled, laughed in a way that was understanding and not derisive, and said “no worries, trip your trip, man!”

All that is to say, I realized at that moment that I had a problem standing up for myself, and telling people “no.” Years of abuse at the hands of a tyrant growing up had an effect. I was able to see this, and start doing something about it. I haven’t perfected this, but I have improved greatly. It’s an insight I was afforded at the age of 24. I’m not sure how long it would have taken me to realize it otherwise.

The other time a few days later, I got to watch the piney woods swaying in the wind, and it was like the scene out of What Dreams May Come where he goes into the world of the Monet painting. I could see the wind blowing. I had no great insights that day. Much as I loved booze and dope, I knew tripping all the time was not a good thing, and only attempted it a few times.

Salvia is a whole other nasty beast. It’s not like any other kind of impairment I’ve experienced. Time, space, reality, and you as a being or even a concept are instantly and violently ripped away from you. Truly, all concept of everything is instantly gone as soon as you exhale. It only lasts a few minutes, but it feels like hours. On several occasions, I had the very real sensation of being fed through what I can only describe as an egg slicer head-first. I was split into many strips lengthwise. Another time, I was the carpet, which was being peeled up off the floor and also cut into strips. It was never pleasant, and I think after about the fourth horrible trip, I realized if there was going to ever be a good one, it would have happened by then. We’re talking a hit the diameter of a pencil lead, looking like six or eight flecks of black pepper. Incredibly potent shit. Another one of those South American natives.

A lot of people have taken psychedelics over the years and most are ok. This is NOT the case of everyone. Grace Slick is just one example of the damage psychedelics can do. This is the worst Song/Video of all time. She clearly has brain damage. Anyone who likes this video is suffering from brain damage as well. Just a warning to anyone looking to try it.

It is playing the lottery. Some people are just not wrapped very tight. If psychedelics were a viable treatment they would have been using them in clinical practice on a daily basis. I saw Timothy Leary in person after all the psychedelics and he literally made no sense. He was a well respected Harvard psychologist who published his own theory of personality before he discovered LSD.
