There have been a few threads out here recently discussing cellphones. After having read all the differing perspectives and opinions in those threads, I thought this topic might be an interesting discussion.

First off, this thread is NOT about any name brand or particular platform, so lets not slip to bashing particular products.

So here's the topic of this thread....What three (and only three) attributes are most important for you in a cellphone?

Here's mine.
1 - Big battery - Even if it makes the phone a bit thick.
2 - Speed - Both processor and modem.
3 - Value - Good mix of feature/functionality for a max price of $500.

So what are yours?

Reliability. I use the phone to text, check email, and on occasion have a conversation. I do not have a need for lots of apps.

My family gave me one of those "do everything" phones a couple years ago. I hate the damned thing. All I wanted was a simple phone. No texting, email, yada yada.

I just dropped Cable TV and subscribed to Hulu. I need my Samsung S9 to act as a controller (changed channels, pause programs and search for content.

I monitor five email accounts (hobby, condo business, and three personal)

I'm OCD about weather reporting, so there is a live widget for that.

I check my credit card for new transactions nearly daily.

I've cut back omn FB and FB Messenger by 80% but still keep it handy.

There are a few golf related Apps, AAA, car manufacturer apps in case I'm locked out of my car, a prescription database for prices and interactions.

Pretty useful these Smartphones.

Until the Turbo Droid, I was a longtime Motorola fan.

Big screen.

Fast.

Good battery life.

Compatible with the ecosystem I have developed (I won't say brand in keeping with the request in OP). This includes chargers, accessories, cables, and a huge library of apps.

Reliability
Size (I don’t want a fucking phablet, make a small-er version)
Cost

If my work didn’t require it, I’d chunk the smartphone into the trash where it belongs and go back to a simple flip phone. The phones and apps are a got damn epidemic on our society.

I want one that is a gun too.
Getting old and all sometimes I forget shit.
If I forget my phone I keep on going.
If I forget my gun I turn around and go get it.

    I am admittedly a techie geek and love the cutting edge high tech stuff. I am (thankfully) in a position where I can afford (most) of my vices and since I have little interest and no expenses related to bar drinking, professional sports, concerts, plays, and other "traditions" interests the gadget costs don't take away from other pursuits.

    My top three would be (not in a particular order):
    1 - Compatibility/Platform consistency - The real beauty of my choice is my phone is part of the ecosystem that also includes my computer and my tablet. Not only is everything accessible from any of my devices, it all looks the same and is done the same on each device for the most part. My phone rings while I am typing this I just answer it on my computer, don't have to go get the phone of the dining table in the other room
    2 - Performance - While similar to "speed" I honestly don't care what processor, modem, chip set, etc. it has but I do want it to perform well. When I open an app, it needs to be up and ready fast. When I download it needs to be fast, if I am streaming music or video I don't want stuttering, pixilating, or pauses.
    3 - Features - I want to be able to see the location of my and my wife's other gadgets from my phone. I want to be able to use it to control the TV instead of looking for the remote, I want to have it not only replace multiple other things, but do it well. Camera, alarm clock, voice recorder, GPS, etc. It really is the closest thing we have to a "Magic Box" these days.

    What isn't terribly important to me?
    1 - Battery Life - Let it last a day the way I use it and I am happy. I'll always prefer sleek styling and light weight over being able to go three days on a charge. I am always near a charger at home, in the car, or work. If I am going out in the wilderness I'll take a power cell. If the grid goes down I h ave a generator and solar options
    2 - Price - Within reason of course, but I value and I use my gadgets a lot. Given two truly equal options, common sense says go with the less expensive one. This doesn't mean I will just pay the biggest price and not blink an eye, I still need to feel it is worth the price to me.
    3 - Other peoples thoughts/reviews - We are all different. I have used both of the major platforms and honestly admit they both do just about everything. I lean my way and do so without faulting or judging those who lean the wrong way... er I mean the "other" way Wink

    Good reception on the fringes

    Shirt pocket sized

    Durable, with great moisture resistance, or waterproof. I'm not around water so much, as sweat like its my job.

    Has to fit in cell phone pocket in my Duluth Trading cargo pants and shorts. Has to do this in Otterbox's slimmest case.

    Durable - has to be able to be dropped (it'll have an Otterbox on it) and water resistant

    Fast

    Fast processor

    Simple things
    1: replaceable battery.
    2: it has to comfortably fit in a front pants pocket
    3: it has to be android, just because I'm used to it

    * Headphone jack
    * Micro SDCard slot
    * Long battery life

    Any phone which has these features and is from the last several years of phones is absolutely good enough. I don't give a single shit about having a newer camera or any other crap. I'll be using phones that have these features until it is literally impossible at some point in the future, and would gleefully shame and publicly flog those who who have removed these features for days on end if given the opportunity.
