I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix with 164Kmi that served me well, but there are so many little problems here and there that I no longer want to keep. Called a number on a street sign that advertises "We Buy Cars. $1000!" and they thought it was too old. Roll Eyes Doubt I'll have better luck selling it myself.

The registration is up for renewal in a week, I need to decide if I want to spend the money on a car I don't plan to keep for another year.

Would donating be a good alternative? Kars 4 Kids advertises so heavily, I'm suspicious about their legitimacy.

I would put it on Facebook Marketplace. Anywhere from $300-$1,000 depending on the problems with it. List all the problems in the ad.

If you don't want a million people harrassing you on marketplace, just donate it. If your tax situation is that the deduction is not meaningful then just junk it. Around here that's like $500.

My sister inherited my parents’ ca. 1990 Buick Century. When I gave her a new used car, she called 1-800-KARS-4-KIDS (most annoying earworm ever); then talk to a dismantled (i.e. junk yard). She got $275 from the junk yard, more than she could have gotten from deducting a donation.

Oh, hi, Sis!

I recall seeing "Kars for Kids" ads on TV. I guess they buy them.

The Goodwills here take donated cars. They auction them every two weeks. Not all sell right away. I've been to two of their auctions. They auction some good vehicles and some not so good. I think you can get a tax break no matter where you donate your car.

Sure you can, if you have the time and are willing to put up with looky-loos, no-shows, lowballers and scammers. If it moves under its own power, steers and stops, it's worth $1000-$1500. Add $500 if the A/C is still cold. Big Grin Otherwise, a salvage yard would give you a few hundred bucks for it.

If that has the 3.8 v6 in it, I would keep it. You should try and sell it, not give it away.

Find a friend with a kid who's learning to drive and give it to them or sell it cheap. A car like that is a perfect first car. If it gets bent, no big deal, and if stuff is broken they can learn to fix it.

My daughter is getting her permit in a month (Lord help us!) and if I was closer I'd happily take that off your hands.

Talk to your Pastor and ask if they know a single mother or person down on their luck that could use transportation. Make sure they sign off the transfer of ownership docs and send them to the DMV yourself releasing you of any liability on the day you give it away.

I sold my old truck to Carvana a few years ago and was pleased with them. The process was easy and I only had to take a few pictures. They offered me what I thought was a fair price, and when they came to pick it up the guy even showed up about 15 minutes early.

This was during Covid when car prices were spiking and I’ve heard Carvana may be in some financial trouble so I don’t know how fair their prices are now but they gave me a quote in just a few minutes so it’s worth checking out.

Offer it free to a good home. Your time is worth more than messing with it.

Here are a couple of pix:

Looks decent from afar...

but when you come closer...

The hood looks just as bad.

Let's see...

- The driver's side rear's window regulator is broken. The window slid down on its own one day. I've replaced the front driver's side and passenger in the past couple of years. I swear they are taking turns going bad. It's just being kept closed with packing tape.

-The steering is going bad. It whines and moans when I turn.

-The fuel gauge needle moves from all full to all empty every few minutes. I don't really know how much fuel is in the tank. I just make sure I fill up after the trip computer reaches 150mi.

-The air conditioning works fine, but the mix doors are stuck. The right halves of the vents blow cold air, the left halves blow hot air. I closed all the left vents and aim the rest as far to the left as I can.

-The ABS warning light came on a few months ago.

-The left tail lights relays are bad. No brake or signals.

-Interior trim pieces on top of the door cards are brittle and broken.

It's in great shape otherwise. Razz That 3800 Series II will never die.

Don't lowball me. I know what I got! Big Grin

Non of which keeps it from actually being driven, right? You could probably still get $1K for it. Anything that runs is a $1K car these days.
