I’m interested in a light colored white or silver, 2wheel drive, no frills...cloth interior, truck. (Think fleet truck with nothing but AC-AC is a MUST)

Please give me pros and cons...for Full sized trucks...and ...go!

I do the Chev/GM thing cuz the Dad in law is retired GM. My current ride is a Crew Cab Sierra 1500 4x4. I could ‘almost’ get by with a 2WD truck.

No major complaints, the Silverado/Sierra reviews rather well, 5.3 ltr engine here. A while back I was leaning Tundra, but the reviews with GM came out clearly better.

My mileage averages about 19 MPG. I just changed my differential fluids & transfer case, 31k miles.

If you don't want any frills, look at the current Tundras. The Tundras design is dated, and falls behind the competition in terms of features, but it is a solid, very reliable truck. Plus, they're selling for dirt cheap because of the age of the design (Big re-design due for the 2021 model year).

I just bought my fourth Tundra last week.

Buy used? My recent choice (in 2014) was to find a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel. 2WD, manual trans. King cab. Found it (took some hunting) with 95k miles. These trucks will do 300k and even 400k miles. Mine averages 20mpg mixed driving. Have gotten 25mpg on the highway. Reason for this? Different ratio in the differential compare to the 4WD models. They get 11-14mpg. According to the factory manual I can carry 3000# when you include passengers. That is an easy ton in the bed. Been there done that.

Other pluses - easier & cheaper to maintain than newer models, no emission inspection, 12 valve Cummins engine. Comfortable ride.

Mine came from VA with no rust underneath. Should be able to find one in your area as well.

F150. Best selling truck year after year for a good reason.

I have a 2015 F150 I bought with just under 60k. I've had it about a year and a half and it's been great. Have the extended fuel tank and went from Denver to Milwaukee with one stop at Costco (in Omaha) and I still had over 100 miles left on the tank. 3.5 Ecoboost!

I love Toyota but their V8s just got tiring after I've been feeding them endless gas. They'll rarely fail you though! My Lexus GX470 that the F150 replaced required 3-4 fuel stops for the same trip. Granted the tank was a lot smaller but the gas mileage was also a lot worse too. Something to consider imho.

Get a white F450 XL crew cab.

pros: great towing and payload, good turning radius, room for 6, 19.5" rims which gets you into commercial truck tires

cons: price

Go to a dealership for every truck manufacturer and drive each one. That’s really the only way you’re gonna find out what’s right for you. That being said, the new Dodge Rams are very nice. The design, fit and finish of the interiors are a cut above everyone else’s truck.

If you want the best built most reliable full sized truck you can buy: Tundra.

Don't discount all the frills.

I went from a 04 Ram to a 17 Ram and having my phone integrated to the truck's sound system is pretty sweet. Hands free dialing and texting. The voice recognition is solid.

IMO all of the full sized pick up from the big 6 are solid trucks, the frills are what sets them apart from each other. If you want to go no frills, check out enterprise car sales, they move a lot of fleet and rental trucks.

Personally I'd look hard at the Ford F-150. It's the number 1 selling truck in America for a reason.

I would contact the fleet department at a few dealers and would just ask for their best price off a simple spec.

Hmmm... No frills. When I bought my Silverado, everything on the lot, truck wise, was very frilly.
My only suggestion for no frills would be a Chevy W/T.

I TRIED to buy a no frills truck. They were special order with a 6 week plus wait from every dealer I could find. So I ended up with crap I didn't want. I KNOW it is going to break but hey, I enjoyed it while it lasted. (HEated seats? Apple Car Play? They have some advantages but really? lol)

That said, no problems so far with a 2017 Sierra. SLT 4WD Crew. I bought it because OF THE OPTIONOS WITH DECENT GAS MILEAGE (which excluded the Tundra and Titan,) it held resale value better. I bought it for the write off and have to keep it a certain number of years (3 I think) but want to be able to sell it without taking a bath OR keep it without being upside down.


So far, (40000 miles) I love it and am probably going to do some extras in the next year.

I had a 2015 chevy Silverado, base model had the new 300hp 4.3 v6, it got 23-25mpgs and towed 5-6k no problems at all.

Just FYI, Chevy is still making the previous body 1500 truck in double cab only, 2WD and 4WD. It can be had in WT, Custom ( WT with fancy wheels and cloth) and LT. I just ordered the last of them today, got some WT's in colors, plain white too and a couple of customs. They are all 5.3 V8, auto trans, power locks, windows, cruise, tilt, bluetooth, AC, backup camera and towing package at a minimum. Mucho grande rebates on these. They call it the 1500 Silverado LD

YES. Exactly what I wanted when I ended up buying the Sierra instead ( it was end of year and I had to make it happen asap.)

Toyota makes solid and utterly reliable vehicles in my experience. My '16 Tundra has been 100% for the last three years +.

While they don't have all the wizz-bang, neat-o, gizmos that other brand have, Toyota has more than enough for my needs.

I'm eyeballing a F150 myself. I'll be going used though. Something like a low mile 2018 Lariat for $35kish OTD would be nice.
