USPS is brutal in my area lately Login/Join

I realize that COVID has made all deliveries take longer, but USPS is just brutal. I'm talking packages taking more than two weeks to get to my door for parts I ordered. And that's not including the time it took for the order to dropped at USPS; that's just how long it took from the time USPS got the package. First world problems, I know, but damn.

It's so annoying that I've stopped ordering things if I can't chose a shipping option other than USPS. Is it this bad in other areas?

I read something that USPS uses commercial flights to send packages and they've obviously got a lot less flights to use. Any truth to that?

Anyways, PSA: use UPS

I can’t say that I’ve really had a problem with USPS lately. I did recently have a UPS package that took over 1 1/2 weeks in transit, about twice as long as normal.

Interesting. In my area USPS has been really solid and quick (basically pre-COVID speeds for almost anything) UPS has been decent... and FedEx has been a complete disaster.

We have been good here. In fact, I have been receiving packages as late as 6:30 P.M. as a separate mail delivery from the one earlier in the day. That has worked well since a couple of those deliveries were for medication. Excellent service lately!

I don’t think it’s necessarily the area you live in that’s causing the issue, I believe it’s where the package is being shipped from.

I’ve had a couple of chairs I ordered over two weeks ago sitting at a USPS hub in California since May 28 and no idea when they’ll actually be delivered. I know others with the same issue on things like electronics and UTV parts, coming out of Cali and delayed.

I'm having issues with USPS too. I ordered a pistol for KYGunCo that was shipped on 22 May, made it to Atlanta on 25 May, and hasn't moved since. The gun shop I bought from filed a missing mail complaint and USPS claimed they have the package in Atlanta and it will move on to its destination soon. Sounds like BS to me, I think my pistol was lost or stolen. So much for priority shipping.

Well, I know most everything from everyone is taking longer.

I say most everything, because so far it hasn't effectived the delivery of my pups food, which is prescription and delivered by FedEx Home Delivery.

Everything else though has. I ordered some depinning tools from Amazon. It said shipped UPS. It didn't say UPS SmartPost, which it is.

I have gotten a shipping notice, and the delivery date keeps moving. It Originally said last Thursday. Now it say tomorrow, with Friday and Saturday in between.

It sat at UPS in Louisville Kentucky for 4 days, and now in USPS in Louisville Kentucky for since Friday. Coming from mid Ohio. So, it's taken 10 days from ordering to make it that far.

USPS has been a disaster for us lately, pretty much everything has been excruciatingly slow, including regular mail, and delivery service hand offs. This appeared to start about the time our regular carrier of many years retired, a month or so before the CoVid panic began. Since then, we have had a series of stand-in carriers who appear to be starting her route after they finish their own.

One package, my wife ordered from Midway was taking a long time, two days to UPS hand-off, and then just sitting. After about two weeks, she checked on it and it was showing as missing in transit with the last scan checked into a large distribution PO near us. So she called the PO, they said "call the shipper," she called Midway, and they said, "we are just telling you what the PO is saying, if you still want the item, you should probably reorder it, and cancel the original delivery." So she did that, and two days later, the first order shows up in the mail. The USPS still has not updated their tracking information.

In contrast, I have seen very little recent disruption or slow down in either UPS or FedEx deliveries. One Amazon blue van delivery I got recently was ordered at about 12:15 on a Saturday afternoon, and received about 2:40 the same day. This was ordinary free Prime shipping, I didn't request expedited. Almost as good as Top Gun Supply!

Mailed my check for my electric bill (yes I still use checks) about 20 miles away. After a week it still hasn’t arrive so I was forced to pay online to avoid late fees. No carrier is getting signatures even when requested on shipments. I’ve had guns left on my front porch that were supposed to be signed for by an adult (uSPS, FedEx and UPS has done this).

I’m fed up with the postal service, their service is awful. I despise when I have to go inside to mail something, it can be a 30-45 minute wait. The Postal Service needs to be shut down along with the IRS and other govt agencies. We don’t need to defund the police, we need to defund our federal government.

It’s been terrible here in Marblehead ES, it’s gotta be the Allen Park distribution center, every time I order something, it seems like they jack it around. Last week I ordered had something ordered from 2 weeks ago, it made it to that center in 2 days and they sat on it for 6 or 7 days, sent it to Toledo twice, back to Allen Park twice. If I can’t get it from UPS or another delivery, I’m done ordering also through USPS shipping. Our outgoing mail here on the peninsula is outstanding, it’s just them getting it here.

I ordered a used book on Amazon, usps. It vanished after a couple weeks and I got my refund. Another two weeks went by and it showed up, after I had re-ordered the same book and received that one.
I just ordered another used book and once again it "may be delayed".

On top of that I was surprised an order was going to actually make the "prime 2-day delivery", today.
Nope. Didn't show.

I know someone questioned paying for Prime if it can't deliver. I'm getting there. I'm getting sick of being told fake delivery dates. I wish they would say "I don't know, here's the tracking, good luck, thanks for playing".

A lot of the fault I should think is the greatly reduced number of commercial flights nowadays. A lot of mail used to get shuffled around by the airlines. A lot of it now is probably by road instead of air.

Interesting. Where I live, it's pretty much business as usual. Whatever delays there are, are from the shipper, i.e. they take longer to ship out the items. Once it's in the hands of either UPS or USPS, deliveries were almost exactly the same as prior to this pandemic.

Of course, there was this one time FedEx botched the delivery, but I found them to be incompetent even before the pandemic. They delivered to 5772 [street name] instead of my house at 5722 [street name]. The nice lady 5 doors down brought my package to me the next day.

Hit or miss. I've found my deliveries to be just as good as normal, with one exception of a package being shipped from nearby my home to have been routed all the way to the opposite side of the state, only to be sent to me. That one aside, sellers are the bottleneck usually and not USPS.

My outgoing mail is another story. One recent birthday card sent within the state took the expected day to arrive. A mother's day card also sent within the state (as in 90 miles away down the Turnpike) took 10 days to arrive...but a mother's day card sent on the same day from the same mailbox arrived in NC in 2 days. WTF?

Delivery has been much slower than usual. Tracking is worse than ever, they keep losing my packages but they have all shown up eventually.

Big issues here too. Tracking has been a shit show. International shipping just isn't happening. I'm waiting on packages that normally take 10 days...going on 6 weeks.

One of my neighbors just said they've not received any mail in 1.5 weeks.

We have an awful mail lady. Absolutely the worst mail carrier I've ever seen.

27 days. Bought an AR barrel from a guy in Oregon on May 18th. He shipped it to me on the 19th and I received it yesterday, June 15th. It sat in Seattle for almost a month before they shipped it to Detroit. Not bad huh!
