Did Congress change the goal posts (adjusted gross income limits) for this third stimulus?

They did, yes.

But did it change for kids and dependents?

Get ready to pay for that "stimulus"...

Biden Plans Biggest Federal Tax Hike Since 1993 To Fund Infrastructure, Climate Initiatives

Households across the US rejoiced over the weekend as they received their first stimulus checks. And as BofA's team of analysts parses exactly how millions of Americans will spend this money (will they buy washing machines and toasters? Or dump it into crypto/GME?), Bloomberg is out with a chilling report alerting Americans to the inevitable reality that President Biden is about to switch gears from spending to fundraising.

Of course, we use that term loosely: Despite the fact that Biden just shelled out another $1.85 trillion to finance a third round of stimulus checks (not to mention hundreds of billions in handouts to states and municipalities), his administration isn't raising money to pay for that. Instead, they're looking to finance a Democratic "New New Deal".

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Well the good news is that the people receiving the checks won't be getting tax hikes, no problem there.

Now for those not receiving a check while paying for others to get checks, those people are fucked. Get to pay for handouts AND new deal BS.

I'm pretty sure everyone will be getting a tax hike in one form or another.

The planned tax hikes WILL hit EVERYONE.

When taxes on businesses go up, prices on everything they sell or do go up.

Gas prices go up, cost of everything delivered by rail, truck, boat, and plane go up.

California cities forcing grocery stores to pay $5/hr “Hero” bonus to workers (how is that even legal?) grocery prices go up, jobs are lost, and stores are closed.

EVERY democrat championed way to “improve” things has a directly opposite effect. They are all about increasing dependency on Uncle Sugar, not getting people out of poverty or “helping” the working class. All the while filling their own coffers with insider trading, kickbacks, pork projects, and exemptions to the laws they foist on the rest of us.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Not to mention the ‘hidden’ tax called inflation. It’s coming.

That is correct Alan. The very wealthy have ways around paying taxes. Those celebrating the 1400 checks will be whining and crying when gas prices continue to climb and they start paying out the nose for everything due to inflation. It never changes. Stick it to the wealthy has never worked. Wait and see. Hopefully a Republican administration can get in before more damage is done.

I don't qualify and I sort of screwed my ex-wife by filing my taxes too early.

We have a 17 year old son. The new Covid package includes $3000 child tax credit. I generally claim my 17 year old and my ex claims our 20 year old. This year it doesn't matter because at 17 I only get a $500 dependent credit, same with her.

But because I claimed my younger son on my taxes, as is the case based on my divorce agreement. Unfortunately had I known I could have switched kids and she would get 3K in stimulus child tax credit because she qualifies. I do not qualify as I make too much so basically same kids, same incomes and we lose the 3K because of who claimed who.

These go to eleven.

Is it worth exploring possibly filing an amended return removing the 17 year old, and then have her file with the 17 year old? (Unless you claiming the 17 year old is specifically required by the divorce decree.)

Nah. Just putting them on the credit card, with the plan to pay it off after the stimulus hits, if they don't blow it on something else first.

The first checks didn't start processing into accounts until Saturday.

They started hitting around noon on Friday. We had a bunch of customers get theirs Friday and then Saturday as well.

I thought about that. But the amended return filing can’t be done until the end of March and they take like 16 weeks to be changed. That would mean the ex would have to file late. Her return will get rejected if my amended return hasn’t cleared yet as there’d be 2 returns claiming the same kid.

It is spelled out in the divorce decree but if we agree to swap it would never be an issue.

I’m like most of you on here who think the country shouldn’t go more in debt. I agree, it’ll come back to bite us in the ass. However, due to circumstances not entirely in my control, I welcome the stimulus check in order to pay my property taxes. It helps me out now, and short of hitting the Lotto, I’ll be late again in 6 months. Unfortunately I don’t see an easy solution. So for those of you who don’t need the stimulus, and don’t have a better way to spend it, send it to me, lol. I guarantee you it won’t be spent foolishly. Some people are going to benefit from this check. Myself included.

For those of you who don't qualify for the stimulatory checks because you make too much money, can't you just identify as someone who makes less money and then qualify?

Seems reasonable to me.
