1993- It was a Nokia bag phone. I still have in the attic and my kids thought it was hysterical when one of them found it a number of years ago.

I think I got my first smart phone in about 2012. It was an iPhone and I am on about my 4th one now.

In 1994 I bought a Motorola bag phone for my wife who was driving around the northern lower peninsula of Michigan looking for a house for us, seeing as how I had recently taken a job transfer there.

First cell phone was an NEC bag phone. Company issued in 1994.
First smart phone was an HTC phone with a sliding keyboard. Running windows mobile. Provided by a different employer in 2004.

first smart phone and still my all time favorite was a Windows phone. I loved how it integrated with my PC. That was about 2015 Sadly there were almost no apps for it. Moved from that into an iPhone and that's all I've used since with about 3 upgrades to date.

Didn't buy for myself or my wife, bought as Christmas gifts for my MIL and my parents a Motorola Bag phone for each.
I remember the usage rates were like 5 min. a month or you went over and paid a much higher rate.
Pray you did not end up on roaming or you were looking at a second mortgage to pay the fees.
Using those bag phones almost made you scared because of the fees.

Somewhere around 1988 I had a Nokia bag phone. My first smartphone I believe was an iPhone 6.
