AZ recently had thousands of teachers go on strike for more money ("red4ed" movement). Schools closed all over the state for days. Our Governor is a well liked Republican but had to cave to their demands of a 20% pay increase! It will be implemented over 3 years as I recall. When fully implemented they could be making more than state law enforcement officers. The strike was lead by a socialist and reported supporter of bernie sanders. Reading is important. I read the article. This trip was a few loony teachers going on a trip. The CTU says they neither sanctioned the trip nor funded the trip. According to the article, the union and the rank and file have distanced themselves from these nuts who call themselves the Radical Educator Collective. | |||

This^^^ I'm not going to lie, there's a handful of idiots in that group (just as almost any other group). But it's the small minority that is getting their 15 minutes of fame. But the news here just loves to stir up some shit. The majority of the teachers that I talk to and live around think that these whack-jobs need to stay down there. Only in a few countries female literacy rates are above male literacy rates, in Venezuela, 97.21% of all women aged 15 years and older are literate, compared to 97.04% of men. I find those numbers very hard to believe, but then there have been a LOT of people leaving that country, and from what I have seen, they seem to be the poorer uneducated ones. That might not be so bad, at that! Maybe then parents would actually get interested in what their kids are really learning in school. But then, how many parents are products of the same BS education? Back in 1990-91 I was on faculty loan assignment to Hampton University. Historically black university. While I was there, my brother in law came to visit from Germany. He taught English and sports. He brought the English writing assignment from his class, to grade while here. He also wanted me to look over them. We compared the skill/knowledge level of his high school students to my 3rd and 4th year college students. No comparison! His high school students were more than head and shoulders above those college kids! Remember, that was in 1990-91 school year. Facts from the article you did NOT provide: 1. The current President of the CTU (Jesse Sharkey), is himself a believer in Socialism and an influencer in the movement known as the Radical Educator Collective. 2. Those teachers that went were proffered and received as CTU representatives, thus the reason why they were able to meet with high-level government officials in Venezuela. 3. The article does NOT advise us that these CTU teachers are nuts. The 25,000 teachers in the Chicago Teachers Union voted for the current representatives, including their Socialist-Loving President, Jesse Sharkey. 4. Nowhere in the article does CTU advise the reporter that they are "distancing" themselves from these teachers. 5. CTU leadership had approved a resolution several months ago criticizing U.S. sanctions and intervention in Venezuela, including the efforts of President Donald Trump’s administration to delegitimize Maduro (Socialist) and elevate an interim president, Juan Guaidó (Opposition Leader), during mass citizen resistance to Maduro’s controversial reelection last year. | |||
