MIT Press To Publish "Communism for Kids" Book

Apr 13, 2017

Talk about starting the indoctrination early. The Washington Free Beacon on Monday reported that MIT Press is publishing “Communism for Kids,” a book aimed at brainwashing three to seven-year-olds, on those “lovable little revolutionaries.”

A description on Amazon cheered, “Once upon a time, people yearned to be free of the misery of capitalism. How could their dreams come true? This little book proposes a different kind of communism, one that is true to its ideals and free from authoritarianism.”

Free Beacon writer Elizabeth Harrington explained:

Communism for Kids, written by a German author who specializes in political theory and "queer politics," was released last month. The thesis of the children's book is that communism is "not that hard," but has not been implemented in the right way.

Apparently, the book doesn’t focus on the 100 million people murdered under Communism.

In November of 2009, the Media Research Center released “Better Off Red,” documenting two decades of liberal journalists looking the other way at the evils of Communism.

Here are a few examples of liberal fawning over commies:

“Despite what many Americans think, most Soviets do not yearn for capitalism or Western-style democracy.”
— Anchor Dan Rather on the CBS Evening News, June 17, 1987.

“The reality is that even if the communist state were to protect individual rights aggressively, many of its people are not prepared to tolerate diversity.”
— Dan Rather on the May 27, 1988 CBS Evening News.

“East Germany is the Communist world’s vaunted economic success story, hailed as proof that hard work, discipline and thrift can translate Karl Marx’s theories into reality.”
— New York Times reporter Ferdinand Protzman in the May 15, 1989 “Business Day” section.

“Communism got to be a terrible word here in the United States, but our attitude toward it may have been unfair. Communism got in with a bad crowd when it was young and never had a fair chance....The Communist ideas of creating a society in which everyone does his best for the good of everyone is appealing and fundamentally a more uplifting idea than capitalism. Communism’s only real weakness seems to be that it doesn’t work.”
— 60 Minutes commentator Andy Rooney in the New York Times, June 26, 1989.

“Like Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev before him, [Vladimir] Kryuchkov has taken the personal route, talking of his fondness for Bellini’s opera ‘Norma.’ He swoons over the piano mastery of Van Cliburn, and hints that he would arrange a Moscow apartment for the pianist if he would only come here more often. Then he sighs over his exhausting workday at Dzerzhinsky Square: ‘The KGB chairman’s life is no bed of roses.’”
— Reporter David Remnick in The Washington Post, September 8, 1989. Two years later, Kryuchkov was part of the hardline “Gang of Eight” that attempted to overthrow Gorbachev.

“Marx and Lenin are still revered heroes. Never mind that communism as they conceived it didn’t work. Most Soviets don’t want to dump it, just improve on it.”
— USA Today founder Al Neuharth, February 9, 1990 column.

It seems Amazon's book reviewers disagree...

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I don't use the word hate often.

I hate communism and all it stands for.

Does it come with a "Lenin Red" crayon? You know, to maybe color Che's beret??

Our two youngest are soon off to college. I have a feeling campus visits this summer will be quite interesting.

Yeah, let's just ignore the millions upon millions of innocent people murdered in the name of communism. Just a collateral consequence for the greater good. Mad

The flaw of socialism is human nature. The lazy realize they can eat without working. The industrious realize their vigor buys nothing as the fruit of their labor will be confiscated. The gov't realizes they run the show, and do so to take care of themselves and their cronies first. The economy will crumble, corruption will abound.

1.7 stars. I don't think I have ever seen a worse rating on anything sold on Amazon.

People don't want this crap. It's only in small groups where they praise each other for this crazy shit that is happens.

Wonder how the author would like to live under communism. As much as we understand how screwed up communism is talk to someone that has lived it and you will get a whole new understanding.

I wonder if the book will mention the nearly 100 million people the communist dictators killed and starved to death in the 20th century?

This is the story they ought to print:

"......Try pouring water into a tank where there’s a pipe at the bottom draining it out faster than you pour it, and each bucket you bring breaks that pipe an inch wider, and the harder you work the more is demanded of you, and you stand slinging buckets forty hours a week, then forthy-eight, then fifty-six – for your neighbor’s supper – for his wife’s operation – for his child’s measles – for his mother’s wheel chair – for his uncle’s shirt – for his nephew’s schooling – for the baby next door – for the baby to be born – for anyone anywhere around you – it’s theirs to receive, from diapers to dentures – and yours to work, from sunup to sundown, month after month, year after year, with nothing to show for it but your sweat, with nothing in sight for you but their pleasure, for the whole of your life, without rest, without hope, without end … From each according to his ability, to each according to his need … "

Commies always indoctrinate the young because anyone with the sense given them by life experience knows wealth transfer economies do not work. Only the young do not know better.

I'm so glad I dodged the bullet of going to MIT.
I had no idea at the time (even until after I graduated), but Purdue fit my life so much better.

I only applied to see if I could get in, and was surprised when I did.

The Left has never given up on Communism and when confronted with the 100+ years of misery and hardship and hundreds of millions of people killed in the name of it, they ALWAYS have the same excuse:

"It was just never implemented and ran by the right people. With the right people it would work!"

Are you F*CKING KIDDING ME? It has never worked and never will! It's simply not compatible with basic human nature.

In Collectivism, the controlling entities of the State (the government, public schools and the press) are permitted to manipulate the members of its body as it sees fit. This philosophy which we've seen so clearly in this nation for many years now is the antithesis of Liberty. Their behavior, by definition, is anti-American.

When I saw this article I wasn't at all surprised that MIT would publish this. I have spent some time there visiting my son who graduated from MIT.

At first I was really proud of him for having been accepted and for the challenge of it. Over time, I came to understand that it was a bad decision, for him and for our relationship. He was offered two other full-ride scholarships, both of which would have been better for him, but he wanted to go MIT? What is a parent to do? I let him make his own choice. Over four years, actually five with graduate school, the place changed him. It pains me to write this for he will always be my son but he's not my boy if that makes any sense.

snidera, I'm also glad you dodged the bullet of going to MIT.

Two degrees from MIT here - six years.

Glad your son qualified and got in - acceptance is not easy and is an achievement in itself. And there is no bullet to dodge -
whatever else, having MIT on a resume or a Brass Rat a finger opens doors, world-wide. You do not have to explain what the initials mean, where it is, why you went. (And, yes, there are a few other places that can be said of as well.)

That said, it is an East-coast establishment educational facility. They have angst about global warming, have '<+> studies' classes, obsess about 'diversity' and 'disarmament' and the whole magilla. It is not Hillsdale but that said, neither is it Berkeley.

Not sure what the issue is/was with your son (and this might not be the place to share them) but the place is an accelerator. You find things out about yourself, in with world-class peers and being subject to high expectations, that you didn't know before. In my case, I went in fairly unaware, politically and from a friend got introduced to "Atlas Shrugged" and the rest followed.

Rhetorical question - don't need to post the details: It is possible that something uniquely MIT or Cambridge affected your son, but may it also be possible that whatever it was could have happened elsewhere?

Reverting to the topic at hand: MIT Press publishing an infantile book promoting Communism. I don't know why they picked this project but the MIT Press prints a lot of, let's just say non-mainstream stuff that doesn't sell. I agree with most of the bad comments over the choice, but have to guess that the sound-and-fury over this worthless book will probably turn it into one of their best-sellers ever.

Communism is its own worst enemy, which is why it turns into police states to maintain authority, and no comic book will change that. I worry more about anyone who would buy it and/or give it to kids to read, than about the academic moonbats at MIT Press who have been picking out up odd things to publish for decades and will continue for decades to come.

^^^This. Its actually contradictory to basic human nature which is its fatal flaw. Not recognizing this reality reflects the level of mental illness these elitist nitwits suffer from.
