Age Quod Agis |
I say "It was my pleasure. I had a great time" "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." Alfred Hornik, Sunday, December 2, 1945 to his family, on his continuing duty to others for surviving WW II.

I get uncomfortable. 40 years ago, I was a lean, green, fighting machine. 190 pounds of twisted steel, and sex appeal. I was also a screw-off,and did not suffer fools gladly. I wore the uniform of my country with pride. I was no hero, but I served with some, and I know a few. Two things bring me to tears. The unconditional Love of God,the service of the United States Military, past, present, and future. I would rather meet a slick-sleeve private, than a hollywood star!

I tell them they’re welcome and that I killed many overseas. They asked me what my MOS was and I tell them I was a cook. They look at me confused and I say “never said I was a good one...” _____________

I’m happy with just a smile for a response. Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Too old to run, too mean to quit! |
I always thank police officers and service members when I can ID them. Have bought coffee a few times when the occasion made it possible. A bit of humor: I was in the parking lot of a shopping center and noticed a police car sitting perhaps 50 yards from where my car was parked. Fairly deserted area. So I strolled over to thank him for his service. He was pleasantly surprised when I did so. I make it a point to thank LEOs and service members when I can ID them. Very seldom these days does the opportunity come along to talk about the "old days" in uniform. And when it does, the conversation invariably focuses on the really funny stuff we experienced. Elk There has never been an occasion where a people gave up their weapons in the interest of peace that didn't end in their massacre. (Louis L'Amour) "To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical. " -Thomas Jefferson "America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great." Alexis de Tocqueville FBHO!!! The Idaho Elk Hunter

this ^^^^^ Though, TBH, I did not find it a pleasure at the time, the wisdom of years has taught me it was indeed a pleasure and an honour. "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system,,,, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe "If we let things terrify us, life will not be worth living." -- Seneca the Younger, Roman Stoic philosopher

Having a late lunch at the diner today and coming to pay, I used my USAA credit card. The waitress said of course thank you for your service, as they do around this town. I said thank you, but I was just thinking how damn long ago that was.
