Sorry if this has been been posted before. This is the first time I have seen this video and did a search but didn’t see a post.

This is complete incompetence. The officer was fired.

Her finger CLEARLY on the trigger!

Old news.
Officer got fired. (I seem to remember 2 officers got fired but not sure)
Not sure of the size of the check but I don’t remember it being that big.
JSO clarified official policy to not disarm unless making an arrest.

ETA: I remember the guy asked them repeatedly to stop pulling at it and let him take the holster off for them.

I just saw a story in January this year that settlement talks didn’t pan out so he’s suing and also going federal with some 4th amendment claims.

The lady cop that stuck her finger on the trigger was fired “for incompetence”. No word on where she’s working now

^^^^ There’s a LinkedIn page of a Mindy Cardwell with her picture that says she’s some kind of a sales associate for Victoria’s Secret.

I've don't understand why someone with a controversial history attached to their name would use LinkedIn to broadcast where they work now.

I sure hope she was decertified as well as fired. If you can’t take your job more seriously than that, you have no business doing it anywhere.

Get some good first aid training, and stay current.

You're more likely to save lives than with your weapons skills.

Case in point:

“You got anything crazy in the car?”

I might have answered “no” to that dumb question. I might have also said “no, the wife and kids are at home.”

quote:
JSO clarified official policy to not disarm unless making an arrest.

Arrest does not appear to be a requirement:

“c. The mere fact that a person is carrying a concealed firearm does not automatically mean that person poses a threat or is ineligible to carry a concealed firearm. Unless an officer has articulable suspicion that the detained person presents a threat to the safety of citizens or officers or has knowledge that the detained person is ineligible to carry a concealed firearm, officers should not seize a firearm (i.e. remove it from holster, vehicle, pocket, bag, etc.) from someone lawfully carrying it.

d. Factors to consider when a person is carrying a firearm and may pose a threat include, but are not limited to;
(1) Matching the suspect description of a crime;
(2) Leaving a known drug house while being armed; and/or
(3) Verbalizing aggressive intent towards the officer or others.
This policy shall remain in effect until Order 301 (Search and Seizure) has been updated accordingly.”

JSO memo

I can’t seem to find Order 301 though, which could be different. I can find Order 201 and Order 501.

This is becoming more obvious with the proliferation of body cams. Theres an endless stream of videos showcasing women being mostly useless when it's time to go hands on. Sure, they're great for screaming and occasionally offering verbal commands, but there are a TON of videos of women just getting in the way or about to get themselves killed when a male officer shows and goes to fucking work.

Maybe I was a crappy cop but I was always of the mind, thanks for letting me know, and if you don't show me yours, I wont show you mine."

I just never got freaked out about people having a weapon. Especially if they told me.

((In fact, it would usually end up turning into a great conversation, and probably only a written or verbal warning))

(Now if the person was wanted, etc.. that is a different scenario)

That “for your safety and ours” always seemed like nonsense to me. Seems like it would be better safely and securely in the holster. But then I’m not an LEO.
