Don't forget to factor in the serious mechanical problems that 1/2 ton trucks have been plagued with recently, that'll really kill sales. GM V8's spinning main bearings at relatively low mileage along with the little 2.7 turbo problems, expensive Ford eco boost problems well before the truck is worn out (or paid off), Toyota Tundra rod bearing failures..... If nothing else truck drivetrains in the past were pretty solid and reliable and many bought trucks because they want solid and reliable. Take that away and might as well just buy a Subaru and utility trailer. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

On what planet is it a good idea to have a rubber belt (in this case driving the 2.7's oil pump) submerged in OIL?? "The Almighty, He put some livin' things on this earth so a man can eat." - Festus Haggen, Gunsmoke

Depends on definition of used. Cars that are 2-10 years old seem to be very near price of new model. Givemethevin.com offered me 27k for my 2017 Tacoma with 93k. That’s about 5k less than I paid for it 9 years ago next week. I want a new GT Mustang but also like having the truck. Those are only dealer prices I’ve studied. I really want a small econobox daily runner that I can just rack miles on. Import or domestic just needs to run I don’t care about cosmetic. It’s insane the asking. 25 year old Honda civics and Toyota carolla guys want thousands. My almost 18 year old son studies Facebook marketplace all day. He found his 99 f150 there for 1500 and 300k miles. Have fixed most major system since: new brakes, AC, starter and alternator etc. runs great now. I’m shocked at what 30-50 year old junk goes for ( asking) and these are usually rusted out common cars not muscle cars or collectible at all.

Depends on the model and brand. Honda and Toyota stealers, my preferred brands, still trying to get over MSRP (new sales) if they can get away with it. You can find maybe a grand off or so but you’ll have to fly to another state. Locally they fleece. A lot of this has to do with your distributor as well. I got information last week that 70% of EV’s are leased and next year millions of them come off lease. EV’s also depreciate like mad and there will be deals to be had next year. No, I’m not suggesting anyone buy one. Just stating this because almost 10% of vehicles sold now, are EV’s and PHEV’s. There should be deals coming on gas vehicles to as many lease those as well. A lot of people have leased gas vehicles from 2022/2023 and they are generally 3 year lease deals that those people might have bought but MSRP’s have gone through the roof. Used car market is going to fluctuate heavily in 2026. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Yeah, the GM dealer here won't even carry the 6.2s until he knows for certain that the issue has been fixed. (They supposedly retooled mid-25, but the jury is still out.) Only stocking the 5.3 V8s, even on the 2026s.

found a new 2024 trailblazer activ sitting at a dealership for over a year. had 284 miles on it from either delivery or test drives. i'm stuck working 23 days in a row (12 hour shifts) so I didn't have time. Emailed the guy and asked what's wrong with it. He said people just didn't like the color. It was yellow with a white top. I said my son is half yellow and half white so it's perfect. I can't get there but I will ask his mom to bring him there for a test drive. I work 10 mins away, if he likes it, I will make a deal. It was listed for $29k, I talked him down to $27k. Well, exwife said she would take him because she was actually going to that dealership to have them look at her ac/heat because it works and doesn't work half the time (2015 camaro convertible). Anyways, they take her car apart and say it's going to cost $4-5k and that her top is leaking (she knew that). But they won't let my son test drive it because he has a temporary permit. So I said fine, I'll be there tomorrow an hour before I start work to test drive it. Well, my exwife test drove it, and they gave her $10k for her Camaro as a trade in. So I lost a deal. They gave her the deal I worked out. I ended up calling the salesman the next day and was like WTF! He said I sold it to your wife. I said I never said she was my wife, I said son's mother. She's my exwife. Not minority enough!

I believe the Fed just cut rates again today so that should definitely help with rates going down a little bit more Finally starting to see stuff like 5.99% for a 2-3 year old car and not 7.99-9.99% like it was for a while now.

Used cars are just ludicrous right now and it's making me think I want to wait until around Christmas to snag a deal on a leftover 2025 Stopped at a place on my way home from church as I saw a Subaru Forester Sport sitting there that looked like it was in good shape. Was a 2019, not in my age range and had 119,000 on the odometer. This place wanted $16,999 for a soon to be 7 YEAR OLD CAR with 119,000 miles on it. WTH

Had a great Audi TT for 25 years but engine problem could not be fixed even after dumping money into repair. Looked around at shocking high prices on a sedan and got a very low milage 2024 model. Wasn't inexpensive by any means but multi-thousands below a new car. The dealer's lot is huge and filled with nice looking used cars that apparently they can't move. US economy is not in good shape, large scale layoffs every day inn the news. USA needs a major economic correction. Next gov't bill NOT big and beautiful, just beautiful and smart. Time will tell. That does seem high. I recently sold my mint 2019 Toyota Corolla SE Hatchback with 33,000 miles for $16,500. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.
