Memorial Stadium, the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska. A Women’s Volleyball Event featuring two matches, the primetime event being the University of Nebraska-Lincoln women vs. The Nebraska-Omaha women. Attendance record set at 92,003. Previous record was 91,000+ at a Women’s World Cup soccer game in Spain. Pretty effin’ cool.

Interesting topic.

I no longer watch NFL (we know why), NBA (we know why), or the MLB (Steroids + strikes over the years). This person was baffled and said “So you don’t watch any sports?” I answered this is incorrect. I’m a MotoGP nutcase and those guys make NFL players look like pussies with the injuries they sustain. World class athletes. But then I said I also like Women’s volleyball, college and especially Pro Beach, and Womens Tennis. He said “ah man those are gay sports!” I laughed at him. He’s a big football guy. I told him the Martina Navratilova days are over dude. There are some seriously hot women tennis players and have you seen pro beach volleyball lately dude? Oh and by the way your favorite little sport, football, each plays begins with one man touching another man’s genitals. And the women’s sports I watch are and I quote “gay”. He had nothing else to say on the subject. Razz

It's impossible for me to take any women's sport seriously. With all due respect to the forum's female members, it is not my intent to disparage the fairer sex.

Sports, by its very nature, is physical, and men are dominant in this respect. If we were to take the male and female groups of a given sport; basketball, for example, the men would mop the floor. The game would be so lopsided, it might be difficult to watch. This is just the way it is.

Witness our interest in the US Women's soccer team. We rooted for them to lose, the left and the "feminists" rooted for them to win. It's all political and nothing more. This is a team defeated by 15 year old boys- high-schoolers. Amateur athletes. This is a glaring reality.

The WNBA is subsidized by the NBA. They simply will not survive on their own. Why is this so? Because no one actually cares about WNBA games except the family and friends of the players, and the officials and those who work in the arenas where these games are played. Reality

So, now we have a volleyball game which drew a record crowd, and it screams 'cliche'. Hence, my only half-serious response.

Not surprising, considering all students basically get free tickets into the stadium and part of the field was also used to accommodated seats allowing for a larger capacity crowd than would be possible for a football game.

Underwhelming response to this thread at the start of the season. Today is the Championship match between Texas and Nebraska—right now.

A few stats about this season:
Nebraska’s season opener 92,003 in attendance (world record for women’s sporting event)

30+ programs set an attendance record this year.

Record 1.66 million viewers for Minnesota/Wisconsin

Most watched National Semifinals ever on ESPN (1.1 million)

This sport is growing exponentially.
