This morning we woke up to our 7 year old domestic shorthair kitty "Dorchester" on the floor and in severe distress. 4:45 am off to the University Veterinary Hospital Angell in Boston and he was in Heart Failure, Vet said he probably had massive heart attack earlier and the damage caused the heart to fail to pump, we had to put him down he was suffering horribly. My girl is heartbroken, he's the first out of our group to pass his housemates one a liter brother is wailing any ideas on how to ease their grief......

Thanks
Spunk

HJ Kat and I send our condolences as well.

Our animals mourn in their own way. I'd pick up his liter brother and talk to him, and just try to be present. It may sound stupid to "non-believers," but I think our animals understand way more than we give them credit for. And I think talking to his liter brother might help you as well.

Grief is sharpest and most painful when experienced alone, doesn't matter whether you have four legs, two legs, or three.

When one of ours would pass, we would lay him or her on the couch where it normally slept, and let the rest of the brood spend time with it. An hour or so would allow them to understand what happened, and I hope helped them grieve.

I kept some pictures of one of our cats curled up with his deceased mother after we brought her home, but those pictures are too personal to post here.

I think your litter brother simply misses Dorchester right now, and doesn't understand why he is absent. Animals need closure just the same as humans, and if you brought Dorchester home, it may help.

Sorry you have to go through this. As you and so many other members here know, it's the terrible price we pay for what our pets give us.

Sorry for your loss! For some strange reason, I LOVE these types of threads. When I had to put my last dog down I was extremely comforted to know guys on this board knew exactly what I was going through.
