Get my pies outta the oven! |
I recently found out that I can actually get gigabit fiber Internet in my neighborhood from Windstream, was checking them out and they offer a package that includes your choice of Direct TV Stream or YouTubeTV, and I’m thinking about trying it. We currently have Comcast internet and cable TV but it’s getting pretty expensive as all the promo pricing is ending, the fees are ridiculous ($33 alone for TV and sports franchise fees before all the other BS fees and taxes) and need to cut back on some expenses especially with the skyrocketing price of gas. I’m paying for 800 Mbps but I rarely get more than half that when I do speed tests around the house and I have a pretty good ASUS mesh router. Has anyone here tried either DTV streaming or YouTube TV? Would you recommend one over the other? Why? Thanks!

For me the issue is reliability and speed of the internet. I have ATT fiber at the office and only twice has there been a problem. Cost is a side issue and I deal with that with a phone call and some negotitation. I took my home phone off and it saved quite a bit.

Live Slow, Die Whenever |
Ive had YouTubeTV for 2 years now- love everything except the issue with RSN (regional sports network). Cant get LA Kings or Dodgers. Everything else is fine- fair price, good picture/streaming quality, unlimited DVR space included, and above all the best streaming menu system- hands down. Very user friendly. DirectTV- clunky menu system(albeit improved since ATT had it), gotta pay for more dvr space, but much better channel lineup if you got the $$$. If you can get the channels you want through youtube tv its a no brainer for me between the 2. "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. Save an Elephant Kill a Poacher |
We switched to YoutubeTV about 8-months ago and enjoy it. Not as many 'old time' offerings but still a good value at 69.00 a month. Were paying over 200.00!! for cable and that's just ridicules. 1-vote for YoutubeTV. We’ve been streaming with YouTube tv for a couple of years now I guess. No complaints. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Another vote for YouTube TV. We switched to it last fall and I haven't had any complaints. We use Comcast for our internet provider at $60 per month and haven't had any streaming issues.

Shall Not Be Infringed |
I have Internet Only Streaming for TV and ROKU devices on multiple TVs. I'm saving $100.00/ month versus my previous Xfinity cable subscription costs, which had NO premium channels and was basically the cheapest HD (w/ DVR) package I could get. Right now (and it's been over a year since I 'cut the cord'), the ONLY content I pay for is Netflix and Fox Nation. There is plenty of free content to meet ALL of our needs/desires otherwise, but YMMV. I'd suggest forgoing YouTube TV until you determine you can't meet your entertainment needs without it...NO sense if feeding the Monster that is Google if you don't have to! Also, since you're a Comcast/Xfinity customer, they'll provide you with their 'FLEX' streaming device if you switch to Internet Only Streaming and you'll get Peacock Premium at NO additional cost, which you 'may' find a plus...Again, YMMV ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! We've been youtube tv streaming for a couple years now and are satisfied. Less than half what the Spectrum bill was and the unlimited recording feature is great. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

YTTV here. Got it specifically because they have all the ESPN channels for F1 coverage. No complaints. The Enemy's gate is down.

When our current cable/internet contract cycle in early 2023, we’re planning on giving YouTube TV a try, staying with the cable internet or moving to Sparklight service. The big if has been that Bally Sports Southwest which carries the Texas Rangers hasn’t struck any deals with the various streaming services. Bill Gullette

Yep, me to. And the unlimited cloud DVR is a boon given I DVR virtually everything I wanna watch and watch it when I can get around to it. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Unlimited, but, auto-deletes after 6 months, IIRC. The Enemy's gate is down.

I pay $80/month for DirecTV Stream. I've had it for several years and I am very satisfied. I DVR everything, and I like that when fast forwarding there is a small screen so you can tell when the commercials are over. ---------------------------------------------------- Dances with Crabgrass

Thought it was nine months, but it really doesn't matter much. If you keep the program/show selected to "Add to library", it will re-record the next time it pops up in programming. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. I have been happy with youtube. After being a LONG time ATT/Directtv customer, I would never deal with them again after a bad experience with a billing issue.

I think it Originally was 6mo, may have changed. My main DVR is F1 & MotoGP so if I haven't watched it in that long it wasn't going to happen. They also occasionally put premium content up for a weekend (HBO, Showtime, etc) But if you DVR something from those it becomes unavailable when the free period ends. The Enemy's gate is down.

Get my pies outta the oven! |
Thanks everyone, sounds like YouTubeTV is the winner here. Even with the $65 that YTTV would cost, the entire bill for the fiber internet and YTTV would be almost HALF of what Comcast is charging me. I’m going to give it a try, if we don’t like it, Comcast will be kissing my ass within a month or two to come back at the new subscriber rates anyway so this is a win-win.
